    Default Problem with files.

So, I'm quite new to computers. Call me an idiot, but I'm not sure what I should be doing with the RS21.cab files and such. Where should my directory be? And should they be .zip files still or already opened? Take pity on my poor soul.

Oh, and my directory is -

(C: > Alternate Program Files > The Creative Assembly) And from there, I made two different files, my set-up files, and my copy of Rome, where I will put the mod files into through the set-up. Is that correct?

First, don't use a directory like that if you can avoid it. I would suggest creating a c:\games directory and putting all your games in there. However, as you are new I won't confuse the issue too much. Try the following:

    1. Create C:\Games\
    2. Copy c:\Alternate Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War to C:\Games\Rome - Total War
    3. Rename C:\Games\Rome - Total War to C:\Games\RomaSurrectum
    4. Create C:\Games\src
    5. Move the RS .cab and .msi files into that src directory. Do NOT open/expand the cab files.
    6. Run the rs2.msi file. When it asks which directory to install to, use C:\Games\RomaSurrectum
    7. Run the RS2.5 installer - that is a rar file and you'll need to extract the contents of the rar file, again, do it in src.
    8. Point this to the c:\Games\RomaSurrectum directory. It should overwrite loads of files, if it doesn't it's not right.

    Hope that helps.

Will it make a difference if there isn't .exe or those things at the end of my files?

I doubt that it isn't there, it's probably just that you can't see the extension - by default windows doesn't show them.

Look on the Organize - Folder and Search Options -> View and deselect "hide extensions for known file types"
