    Default Personal Preference Question

Do you play with shroud on or off?

    and

If playing Rome, once your in your really late republic to early imperial stages do you even bother keeping troops in cities in Italian peninsula? Other than Rome it self i will always keep troops in there. Asking because i would save alot of money if i disbanded most units in Italy

Do you mean fog of war? If so I always play with FoW on. I always disband garrisons in non conflict regions but only after I had crushed the rebellion.

I play with fow on, but every 10 turns or so I look what the other factions did, I often find that quite interesting.

Regarding Italy, I usually keep half a praetorian "legion" in Rome. They kill rebels if there are any anywhere on the peninsula.

I never turn off fow. I like to use spies to reveal the territory, it feels more realistic. I generally put towers in key strategic places. I think you can edit your posts once you reach 25 posts.

FOW always On for me as well. Placing watchtowers in key positions to keep all of my territory revealed, and along the borders for an early warning. Sending diplomats around to buy maps from any neutral faction in the neighborhood every 10 turns or so. If I'm at war with a faction, I'll send diplomats anyway from town to town to keep me updated on their standings as well. 2 of my spies are constantly behind enemy lines to keep me updated on their activities while I invade. Also, after getting into one very nasty ambush long time ago, I never move my legion into enemy territory, without a spy inspecting the path.

I have 2 stacks of 14 troops or better (depends on my income and on the strenght of naval invasions) in forts on the Italian peninsula, one closer to the alps, other more to the south. Between them they cover all territory and can engage brigands/invasions on the same turn they appear.

I do not play with fog of war.

And I do not keep troops in Italy. Not a single troop, Only Governors I keep in the cities.

Rome is an exception as I garrison a small Legion in the city to deal with Rebel uprisings that come up throughout Italy.

I turn off rebels/pirates so I don't even need any garrisons.

it seems like this would be more realistic towards later years too cuz no legions were supposed to come south of the rubicon, except for the praetorians, smart idea
