I was just wondering how we can play as the Saga clan.

This clan is really difficult at the start imo. Before you know it your ports get blocked and your economy is drained while having little room to expand.. I really 'lost' a lot of time just to build up, get started with ~4 provinces before I really could get cracking with my army on the mainland.. Also because Satsuma expands so fast and imo you can better keep them as an ally...
There is few choices:
A.) Take over 2 closest island to you + invade island, where is Tosa too.
B.) Backstab your allied and rush over Kyushu
C.) Move your army to your allies land as cover and take North-Kyushu, then move to Middle Kyushu before Satsuma.
D.) Invade island, where is Tosa waiting.

I allied with Satsuma early and realized just how fast they were growing.
The thing I did was take the 2 closest islands (they're pro-Shogunate anyways) and then take anything the Satsuma haven't conquered. After that, it's a matter of researching civil policies that boost growth and reduce administration costs and building up trade ports and industry.

My first campaign was with them. I basically took the 2 shogunate islands and then shipped an army to Honshu seeing as Satsuma and my starting ally, Hirado, controlled the whole of kyushuu minus my capital.
So I kind of acted from a distance sending troops to the main land and taking Shogunate lands on the frontline with the Tsu clan. I won by the way and never had a conflict with another Imperial clan. Normal diff.

Do you think it is good, if betray and take Hirado out from game on Saga? It would be fast way get more income and later take Northern- and middle Kyushu before Satsuma coming. :p

I started as Saga yesterday. I didnt want to backstab my allies right of the bat so I went with taking the nearby islands. Then when I was looking for further expansion I looked toward Higo as it is rich and is Pro-Shogunate, unfortunately Satsuma got there before me.
Satsuma had previously refused alliance with me even though I had good relations, they where allied with every other clan on kyushu including my starting ally. I started to look further out for expansion options when suddenly Satsuma declared war on my ally, thus backstabbing their own ally and I joined the war on the side of my ally, surprisingly their other 3 allies, Fokosomething, Kokura and the southern island one cut ties with Satsuma for this and I managed with the help from my good old ally, quite easily take over all satsuma territory and secure alliances with the rest of kyushu. Cool campaign sofar
You did the right thing by not betraying your default ally at the start because they act as a buffer against the shogunate clans around you. After taking the two outlying islands to the north and west in my Saga campaign, I proceeded to capture the iron ore province with the artillery bonus as they were already at war with my ally. This took some military pressure off my ally so they can deal with the shogunate clans in the north. I then headed south to clean up the rest of Kyushu from shogunate influence until only my ally was left. Then I turned on them and took over the whole island and the remaining small island in the south. By then, I was making 8000 kokus per turn on average, which allowed me to recruit two full modern armies for the invasion of Shikoku.
Try not to secure any other alliances on Kyushu because you need to wait many turns after breaking the alliance before you can attack your former ally without any honour and diplomatic penalty. Kyushu is your military and economic base for your expansion to the rest of Japan and should not be shared with anyone else even in the short term.
This day I changed my plans. I took 2 closest Islands and after that i will my army to turtle island, where is tosa. Wipe those shogunate supporters and later take Tosa out.![]()

i'd take the islands and naval invade owari and expand form there on. gunsmith for great acc troops and a railroad on your doorstep with a bunch of VERY rich provinces around you
also, i'd make your home province a purely economic province, ready to abandon for the little poor island right next to you as recruitment center. annoy the heck out of the enemy with naval invasion, but make sure you capture central japan. kii, omi, ise ect. are all so damn wealthy. and with owari in marching range of a railroad with acc bonus recruiting its a great main recruitment center, and a exelent chokepoint. an with some luck itl allow satsuma to become strong and steamroll southern honshu for you. only problem with this tactic is that a strong navy is required, so either you have to rush for ironclads or invest a whole lot in 4 full stack fleets.
