Default An Afternoon by the Wireless

Weatherby Wiggins reclined lazily in a field just outside the castle walls, enjoying the fresh, crisp air of the autumn months and admiring the acres of orange and red foliage that surrounded Hogwarts. He sat in the grass. He had a blanket in his chest at the Gryffindor Common Room, but the ground was dry enough, and it wasn't quite the same if you weren't sitting straight on the grass. The feeble blades tickled him when they managed to poke through an exposed cuff, but he didn't mind.

At his side was an old wizarding wireless; it was far from a fancy machine, but it was still in functioning order. The box was busy announcing the action of a Quidditch match - an international friendly, Scotland vs. Luxembourg. The teams were rivals, and even though nothing of importance rode on the match's outcome, the players' pride kept things exciting.

OOC: Another open RP, any and all may join. Nothing to adventurous, just another chance to have a chat I've asked if Cels (head of sporting) wants to "run" the match, so to speak. Ministry players can participate too - perhaps you're having a listen from your own little office party or something.

John walked into the field and spotted Weatherby listening to a Quidditch match on a wizened radio. What's the game He shouted.

Fritz who had been relaxing, heard the sound of Quidditch. He smiled as he thought of how much le loved Quidditich. Maybe he could become this Gryfindor's friend over just a simple game of Quidditch.

    Whilst exploring the grounds to find another captivating scene to draw; Andrew spotted his new friend and decided after a few seconds pondering to make his way over. Sitting down a few feet away, he was rather intrigued by what Weatherby was listening to and quizzically asked asked a question;

"Is that Quiditch I hear? I've never really understood how it works; my parents aren't really big fans after all."

Cecil, who'd been relaxing on his back for just a little over ten minutes, rises at the sound of Quidditch. The game had always interested him, his father had been a Chaser for the Gryffindors in his own time at Hogwarts and had regaled the Florent children with tales of his schoolday exploits when they were younger. He immediately makes his way to the source, and upon finding his friend Weatherby with a wizarding wireless, waved over to him and cried out, "Hey, Weatherby! What'cha up to?"

As he made his way closer to Weatherby, he saw a number of other students were gathering here as well, a Ravenclaw and two Hufflepuffs. "Hey, you three! I've seen you before in our classes - but I can't say I know your names. Who might you all be? I"m Cecil Florent, Gryffindor, by the way."

Violeta and Ashley walk by the group listening to the Quidditch game, stopping to listen as well. Violeta has her umbrella open and is casually holding it to keep the sun out of her face while Ashley was holding some various rocks or plants she found interesting during their walk around the grounds. Violeta looks over at the group, adjusting her scarf while her cousin waves to some of them.

"Is that Quiditch I hear? I've never really understood how it works; my parents aren't really big fans after all."

Weatherby laughed - everybody knew what Quidditch was! He kept on listening for a moment, before the dots connected in his brain. "Oh... oh. Well, Quidditch is great fun - it's a sport that wizards have been playing for ages. It's all on broomsticks, you see - there's the Chasers, who try to score with the Quaffle, and the Seeker who goes after the Golden Snitch; there's the Beaters, who go around ruining everyone's days by smacking bludgers around..." Weatherby continued describing the basic rules of Quidditch, touching upon each position and their role in the game.

Weatherby waved at his approaching friend. "Listening to the match! Come, sit down. I was just explaining to Andrew here - this is Andrew, by the way - some of the rules."

Andrew smiled at Cecil; offering his hand towards the approaching Gryfindor.

"A pleasure to meet you; as he said, I'm Andrew."

    Fritz nods at Cecil

    "Hey, I'm Fritz."

He then turns back to the game, listening to the play-by-play

"Any of you guys gonna try out for your House teams once the stadium is fixed?" He asks

Cecil takes Andrew's hand, and nods at the others. "Andrew, Fritz, and John...nice to meet you all." Directing his voice towards Fritz now, he spoke, "Yeah, I think I just might. I don't know if First Years are allowed to try out - I don't think so myself, but who knows? - but I'll go for it as soon as I can. Are you gonna try out?"

Noticing Ashley waving at them from a distance, Cecil smiles brightly and motions for the two of them to come closer to the growing crowd around Weatherby.

Ashley walks over rather quickly, an sits down next to Cecil. "Hello, so what game is playing?" She motions to the wireless. Violeta walks over slower than her cousin, then sits slightly off to the side.

    Fritz nods

"Yeah, if I can get my hands on a broom...."

    His expression darkens

Cecil groans. "Yeah, no kidding. If only I had the money..." He paused before remembering his other question and asked, "Well then, if you could play - what position?"
Ashley walks over rather quickly, an sits down next to Cecil. "Hello, so what game is playing?" She motions to the wireless. Violeta walks over slower than her cousin, then sits slightly off to the side.
"Quidditch. I think...is that Scotland playing Luxembourg?" Cecil felt no need to explain Quidditch to the Dalcas, as purebloods he presumed they would already know at least as much as he did about the game.

Ashley laughs slightly. "Of course I know it's Quidditch, why else would we all be here? " "Could be some mudbloods who prefer muggle sports, Ashley." Ashley sighs while Violeta smirks, knowing she would annoy Cecil. Ashley then tries to ignore her cousin. "So, you guys were also talking about playing it here? I would love to if I could afford it..be a seeker, would never want to be a keeper.."

"Keeper. Always overlooked, but if they can't stop the Chasers, even the Snitch can't save 'em"

Andrew had no real idea of the concept of the game and randomly chose a position he thought sounded good; nervously laughing as he told them his choice of position.

    "I guess I'd be a beater..."

"True enough. Myself, I'm aiming to be a Chaser, just like my old man. It might not be as glamorous a job as Seeker, but the grunts can make sure not even they can snatch victory from the jaws of defeat if they work hard enough and well enough together."
Ashley laughs slightly. "Of course I know it's Quidditch, why else would we all be here? " "Could be some mudbloods who prefer muggle sports, Ashley." Cecil clucked his tongue irritably at Violeta's provocation, but chose not to act on it. Not this time, anyway - her cousin was present, as was a growing crowd.

Violeta was somewhat disappointed the baiting didn't work, but didn't show it. She just went back to remaining silent, listening to the game.
