    Default Roman Economy Help pls

I'm currently using the 2.1a version of the mod. I really had no trouble with the economy in 2.1, but I REALLY struggle to get the economy going in this.
I use Hard battle, medium campaign difficulty if that helps.
Anyways, I'm quite good at the battles. I easily beat hannibal by turn 3, wipe out carthage in Italy by turn 4 or 5, have eliminated carthage from spain by turn 7 or 8 (sometimes a little more), and I can wipe out carthage in not too long a time, but after I do that I'm SO POOR.
Problem is, I don't even build many legions, so that's not the issue. I currently in my campaign have eliminated carthage, have syracuse, and have about half of spain under my control, yet I'm making about 20k per turn. My taxes are all at about medium because any higher and I get blue faces which I don't like.

Any tips on what to build? Is there stuff I should build right away in the beginning that provides the income I need to keep building? I just dont have the money to get an economy going and with that get my armies really going.

ATM I try to build the markets and traders, the tax things, make the cities citizens, and build the trade things that are like wine, olive oil, etc. I haven't really built many military buildings.
    Thanks.

BTW, great mod. Love it. Just hard to figure out

Without getting into the specifics of what to build let me phrase it like this. Just because Ben Roethlisberger can throw a football 70 yards doesn't mean he does every down. You kicked the crap out of Carthage but at a cost of focusing on your military instead of your economy.

    You have two choices.
    1. Disband as many units as you can without sending cities into revolt. Use that freed upkeep to build basic trade structures like temples and markets.
    2. Accept that you only have 20,000 a turn (for now) to reinvest into your economy. Do so. Every turn build a market, a temple, a mine or a farm to get some delicious pure income.

So in short: You've extended yourself as far as you possibly can. Now you have to just keep plugging those basic structures until you start to get a healthy income. Don't discount building something that makes your subjects happy though. A happier citizen can be taxed harder

If anything though.. I'd give in and accept the blue faces.

Just tax the hell out of everyone and conquer regions.

Slaves do make instant money fall from the sky. Sometimes it isn't a bad idea to send out a naval raiding party to pinch off a core city, enslave everyone wreck up the buildings then leave. The temporary boost of population usually makes your economy perk up for a good while.

Thanks for the tips all. I was wondering if I just was going to have to grind it out for 20-30 turns, but thought maybe I was doing it wrong. My friend who has played this for a while seems to have no problem with economy, so I wasn't sure if I had screwed up.

Question: Do the buildings from other cultures give more benefits than negative effects? I usually do what ferdiad said, at least for the big cities. Syracuse, Carthago, and Carthago Nova I all exterminated and destroyed every building for some quick cash.

You shouldn't do that, it has no sense in the long run.

When conquering, bring a good governor and a cheap garrison for the new town with you, after the city is yours, destroy only the buildings which have negative effects (besides the cultural one, which is not shown in the building details) and leave the others, if they give you positive effects.
The ones to destory are usually the tax building (because it lowers happiness), sometimes temples, and the enemy barracks of course, which have no effects any more.

You should now have a city, which - after the resistence is gone - is in good shape. To reduce corruption and increase happiness you can build law buildings. You should keep green faces though, as everything below that increases the chance of bad governor traits. But it should't be a problem to have high taxes!

I got into the same situation, Basically what Ferdiad said, rapid expansion and high taxation

In O turn just spam a few stacks of cheap troops and move em into the captured citys so you dont have to spend any time their.

I used to have the same problem. Let say, just slow down yourself in each turn,
1- Have a look at your generals to see which guy has many management skill (the book). He who has many "books" will boost your income. Moreover, you may want to make a transition of Ancillaries from the retiring-age generals to the new one to train the new the better skill. The useless one, I am immorally kill him to save my cost! He will bring all bad ancillaries to deep of the sea.
2- While not at war, make peace. So, sending diplomat to request for trading rights among nations.
3- Don't let free general since you had to pay for them, so without letting them manage a city, your cost of maintenance him contribute to your budget deficiency.
4- Build the tax first, the trade building later, I personally think. As long as your border is much more wide, trade bring more income than tax.
And finally, I often send a legion to raid, enslave enemy cities; return to maintenance, and another legion on the go. I won't keep the city long, and often make it a rebel settlement (not sure it's a approved way from other gamers since roman rebel is more likely to use up their population instead, so whenever the city is taken back by our enemy faction, they has to rebuild thing and boost up population before they can recruit troops from).

Please give me advices if you have any better ideas or criticise me anything you feel disapprove, my friends.

Use [ ] to cycle through citys faster, useful if you want to mass build something and it makes checking citys much much faster.
