A Courtyard of Hogwarts

A few days after the sorting, Violeta and Ashley sit in one of the courtyards of Hogwarts in a period between classes. Ashley stares down at several cards Violeta has drawn from a deck and placed into a celtic cross formation, with four more in a line on the side. She then looks up as Ashley. "If you're ready to see, I can start." Her cousin grins and nods. "Very well..the first card..Justice..means right now you are rather fair in action, balanced, the second card is the Three of Swords, you are unhappy over seperation.." Ashley nods, giggling slightly. "Well, that second one is true. I am unhappy you and our friends got sorted into different houses. Violeta nods and flips over the third card. "Strength..." She flips open the slightly old book and looks that card up. "Gentleness, inner strength and courage." She continues going through the next three cards, then looks to the line of four cards on the side. "So far it seems rather good." " Don't jinx yourself Ashley, the cards can be fickle.." She then flips over the first card, at the bottom of the line. "The Six of Swords..you may find harmony after your distress over seperation.." Ashley frowns slightly, then Violeta flips the second card. " The Nine of Swords..your current fear is anxiety over something, perhaps the start of classes." She then flips the next two cards. " The Hierophant and Six of Wands. The first, may be how others view you as one who may provide advice in some occassions, the second is your dreams, and the Six of Wands means you wish for success." Violeta sighs, then smiles. "Overall it seems your future will be rather good if you can keep from being nervous." "Thank you, Violeta. So you practice Divinitation?" " Yes..it somewhat is fascinating to me, not that I am very good at all."

Some other first years approach Violeta and she goes through their futures as well, calmly explaining the cards and using the text for reference when necessary until she has to leave for her next class.

Weatherby, a textbook cradled in the crook of his arm, strolled beneath a covered awning when he spotted some familiar faces through the columns. He hesitated for a brief second - this was the first time he had seen the girls outside of class since the sorting, and he was worried how the Sorting - specifically, Violeta's and his own - might affect things.

"Hello girls," he said after he had closed some distance.

Ashley smiles and waves, while Violeta is finishing up a reading for another Hufflepuff student. " The final card is Death. It may seem fearful now, but in actuality.." She looks in the book to check the card.."but means there is a major change in your future..perhaps something to do with what you like now and what you will like or be like at the end of the year.." She then cautiously smiles at Weatherby. " Hello.."

Cecil made his way through the halls, his textbook in one hand and the other rummaging through his pockets for his wand, hoping to practice some Charms- and perhaps impressing any passing teachers well ahead of time, before showing up at any class. However, all such thoughts disappeared from his head upon sighting the Dalcas and Weatherby.

"Hey, Weatherby!" He cried out to his friend, placing his textbook under his arm and waving at the three. "Ladies! How've you all been? And how's the Hat's choice of Houses suiting you?"

"Hmm, well I'm sure you'll be alright. Hufflepuffs are said to be the nicest lot here, right? If that's true, then it can't be all bad." Cecil said, giving Ashley a reassuring smile. 'Could be worse, could've ended up in Slytherin,' he thought inwardly.

Noticing Violeta's deck, he asked, "Hm? What are those cards for?" He had not forgotten the incident on the train - far from it - but was in no mood to start round two with the girl, especially not when her cousin was still here.

Violeta draws several and shows them to Cecil and Weatherby. The cards have pictures of various things on them, the suites are swords, wands, pentacles and cups with several other cards not in the suites. "Tarot Cards. One of the methods of Divinitation wizards use."

He looked down at the cards Cecil had asked about, and adjusted the book under his arm.

Cecil scratched his head. Divination had never been the Florent family's forte, and he was no different. "So, then...those cards can help you look into someone's future, or something?"

Violeta nods. "Preciesly. I'm not very good at it yet, but that is what Divinitation is for, to try and see into the future. People who master it, I've heard can see far into the future..like maybe even a entire year.."

"Thanks. I'll give it a shot." Cecil takes the offered deck and shuffles it himself before handing it back to Violeta.

He turns to Cecil.

'Another Slytherin?' Cecil thought to himself.

"Cecil Florent, of Gryffindor."
