Installation issues

Hi people,

I have bought RTW Gold and RTW alexander on steam and downloaded it.

First what i did was downloading the files: RS2.msi, RS_2.1a_Patch, RS21, RS22, RS23, RS24 and RSII_setup.

RSII didn't start up it showed an error, so I started RS2.msi for the installation and I let it install in the Steamapps/common/RTW gold folder. I also copied and pasted the RTW gold folder in the RTW alexander folder just like the installation instructions told me to do when i use steam. Further I changed the blabla name in steam properties option to play as the romans. okay i did that

when i launched the RS 2 launcher, game started up with the boris *** thing and i pushed ALT+Tab to click at the rtw icon again and it started up. but when the game started, i could not start any campaign. and i followed all the instructions, but just couldn't do any thing to start a roman campaign.

So uninstalled rtw and installed it again. And now i have downloaded RS 2.5 too.
Maybe there is a thing that i did wrong. What to do with the downloaded .rar files like RS_2.1a_Patch, RS21, RS22, RS23, RS24 ?

And what to do with the installation of RS2.5?

Can anyone please tell me in steps what i exactly have to do because the instructions that the forum gives, i failed to do it right probably.

Please help me out.

I mean RSII_setup didn't start up... at the 4th sentence

Thank you a lot bro. It would be helpful if you post a video tutorial for Steam, so it would be more clear to other steam-users. I have tried to follow all the instructions by text but none of it helped.

So i followed the video, step by step and everything seemed good but my persistant problem is still there. The launcher. I used the one in the launcher folder not the desktop one which i binned. Everytime i select my faction, enable steam etc then click play, nothing happens, it just freezes somewhat. I music still plays, you can click options but nothing happens and to close the launcher i have to ctrl atl del. I can launch the game via steam using the libary launch options, for example '-mod: play_Sparta -show_err -nm' and this works for the swap factions (but makes them all 1 turn). Also from the launher i can't edit the preferences.

Is there a launch_steambi file created in the gold folder?

Did a search in the gold folder and it said there wasn't one.

Is your folder in the program files?
What is your os?

yes its in the programme files, never changed steams install path when i first installed it. I'm using vista home premium 32 bit.

Could you try to run the launcher as admin please?

I've tried it but to no avail. Same result unfortunatley.

I've made a short video just showing my gold folder and then what happens when i try to se the launcher. Currently uploading it to youtube now. Forgive the quality it was just filmed on my phone, also the launcher music will suddenly get louder at one point, thats just because i forgot to turn the volume up before recording.

As i said the quality is really bad but its just to show you whats happening, if there's any files or anything you can't make out properly in the vid that grabs your attention just let me know and i'll take some print screens.

Sorry for my late reply.

I just reinstalled my whole pc with Windows 7 and installed Shogun 2 TW FoS, that game didn't work too at first but after reinstalling PC it worked finally. And also the same for RSII. I just installed the clean vanilla RTW and it step by step, installing the RSII in a folder outside RTW gold folder. After that pasting it in the RTW gold folder. It just worked, don't know why or how haha. But it does finally work.

So thanks for the steam tutorial and stuff.
