Default Bavarian Army Overhaul, by Splenyi :)

Splenyi' Bavarian Army Overhaul for NTW3

Lord Fullin has asked me to add the Bavarian Helmet into NTW3, but I thought that Bavaria needed much more than this.

In this post I will show everyone my progress on overhauling the Bavarian Army.

Under going an overhaul at the moment

Quad's helmet doesn't look good. Maybe it's a problem with texture.

Do you mean the helmet on my units, or on Quad's, or both?

EDIT: I updated the second post with the new Guard Musician, I will update the first post with the new musician tomorrow

You copy Quad's helmet so on Quad's and on your units.
We need new helmet (= new mesh[true revision of model] or new, better texture ). We can eaisly copy(add) a new mesh to ntw3 it's not problem for other modders.

Yeah this is Quad's helmet, but I gave the texture a little upgrade, but it definitely looks better than what vanilla had, don't you agree?

The reason why the mesh is so bad is because it is actually 2 hat meshes in 1, but using alpha channels in the texture Quad managed to make some parts of each helmet visible and other parts invisible.

I don't have the software to create 3D meshes, but if I did have milkshape I would be able to..... but I don't, so I'm just using what is available to me.

Have you got any other software for 3d moddeling? You can use Blender it's freeware. I can export 3d mesh of bavarian helmet to .3ds file or .obj file.

I've downloaded blender before, but when I opened it, I was instantly lost.

The only 3D modeling software I know how to use is Autodesk Maya, which is great but there are no file converters for it because it's to expensive and difficult for anyone to get.

You can choose maya interaction settings in blender.

    + keymap

    Lordz really needs 3d modeler.

Quad's helmet is better than vanilla helmet.

I had no idea about that, thanks Ziuk. I might actually be able to make the new helmet now.

And thanks for the feedback panzerschreck

    Looks very nice Splenyi.
Are you restricting everything for the Bavarians to just 1 atlas?
This is one of the things Fullin did when tidying the uniforms.
Less Atlases to load up should make for smoother games.

    Thanks Avon,

And yes, it's all restricted to 1 atlas set so it wont affect performance

EDIT: Next unit I'm adding is the Nation Guard, which will replace the Landwehr.

Landwehr were still in the Bavarian Army, but there where much more units made of National Guard, and only one or two of the Landwehr.

Here are some pics I gathered to base the unit on

Excellent effort - your models are for the nationalfeld batallionen of1813; earlier 1809 uniforms for the mobile legions attached

Here is the data on the Feldbatallionen etc:

    Landwehr and National-Feld-Bataillonen

1806 national militia raised to assist with the garrison duties and general service within the state borders.

1809 - in March Napoleon ordered formation of 12 bataillons de milice but due to finacial problems & the lack of qualified officers only 6 reserve battalions, each of 4 companies of 135 personnel and battalion HQ of 8 personnel were formed. They were designated Nationalgarde I Klasse (National Guard First Class). In late April a Landes-Defensionsbataillon was formed.

Gebirgsschϋtzen of 3 divisions formed – 1st division Trauenstein district (500 men); 2nd division Rosenheim district (1,000 men); & 3rd division Garmisch district (1,000 men).

Nationalgarde II Klasse (National Guard Second Class) raised. Each of Bavaria’s 15 Kreis (counties – named after rivers) were ordered to organise Mobile Legionen (Mobile-Legions) of 4 to 8 battalions, each of 4 companies of 176 personnel (including 30 schϋtzen), battalion HQ 8 personnel. The counties were: main; Pegnitz; Naab; Rezal; Altmϋhl; Oberdonau; Lech; Regen; Unterdonau; Isar; Salzach; Iller; Inn; Eisach; & Etsch.

Local militias (Bϋrgergarde) were also raised as Nationalgarde III Klasse (National Guard Third Class)

1813 Mobile-Legions re-organised and renamed the Nationalfeldbataillon, (Nationalgarde II Klasse) with terms of service allowing them to serve with the regular army. At least 20 battalions, each bearing the name of its recruitment district:
    Isarkreises; Salzakreises; Oberdonaukreises; Regenkreises; Unterdonaukreises; Mainkreises; Illerkreises; Wurzburg; Rezatkreises; Aschaffenburg;

Just a small remark, the Bavarian Regulars were given silver buttons however, in the plate you have it's buttons are copper.

    Cheers...

Different regiments wore different coloured buttons, some silver and some copper. I've chosen to give our line units silver. I will try to find a plate that better suits what I have done.

This is not perfect Ziuk, but it is a definitive improvement . And thats enough for me.
With the tools given , the result is very good.

Remember to as permission to Quad and make sure to recognize his work in the patch.

Thanks Prince What would you recommend me to create for the Bavarian's Militia unit? Nationalgarde, Mobile-Legion, Nationalfeldbataillon, or something else?

Was the Mobile-Legion a militia unit, or where they more of a reserve unit?

Also, I have realised that some of my textures are a bit off, and I will fix them soon (on the weekend probably)

EDIT: And the 7th Infantry Regiment in the Bavarian Roster for NTW3 will be replaced with the 1st Lieb Infantry Regiment.
