I have been thinking of this for a time now and I don't think they (the gamers in east asia) are so interested in these types of games they are probably more into pokemon and such maby. Or what do you guys think?

Do total war have a fan base in east asia?

I've actually run across a few Asian language websites that seemed only for TW. That was years ago though, for RTW I think.

But the Total war series is clearly not as popular by gamers in east asia as in the west.

Not nearly as popular as in Europe. I literally know nobody at all here who plays TW. Most people (many of whom are decently serious gamers) haven't even heard of it.

That's odd, as most people around these boards seem to be European. Are you in a small country?

As for Asia, I wouldn't know. I'm half-Japanese, but I haven't been there since I was, well, too young to remember. I don't know how popular the samurai culture is anymore.

East Asia? That includes North Korea and China, am I right? Something tells me that this game is not popular in these two countries...

Taiwanese here. I think most east asian countries are more interested in Koei games, but we still have small groups of dedicated TW fans. For example I know S2 was translated into Chinese and Japanese by the fans from the respective countries, and they are probably working on a new version for the FOTS right now.

BTW when is CA ever going to do a TW game based on ancient China? Warring States is a perfect setting for a Total War game. Sun Tzu was no Japanese, you know...

I seriously doubt theres any market for TW in Asia at all. The series has always been very Euro based.

I'm pretty sure it's banned in China because of the whole Japan invade China and kill civillian thing back in ww2.

Also Steam does not exist in China. (Not including Hong Kong. Hong Kong is awesome.)

Also Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Thepiratebay, Isohunt, Break etc are all blocked in China. (One of the reasons Hong Kong is awesome.)

Oh and just for good measure, I just want to mention that I do not conduct the use of BitTorrents for illegal purposes. (since I can't find the edit function.)

I live in Japan and I know People who play it, and it's in the stores. Nintendo ds is played hy kids and salarymen on the train going to work. Pachinko is for bums. It's PS3 games that most people play. I would also say that Paradox's historical games are much more popular than total war games here.

Hmmm... one would expect that a game about Japanese history attracts Japanese gamers. Or is it the type of game that isn't popular there? Or a lack of marketing? Shogun must be popular in the west if not in Asia, if you look at the quantity of games and DLC the game generated...

I think it's the type of game.

Japanese games are just.... Very different from the games we're used to. I've played a few.

    Didn't like them as much.

Someone built a godzilla themepark over there and it failed massively. (the point being, logically for us europeans/americans it should have succeeded)

Atleast the japanese tends to not prefer "japanese" setting in games etc that much (unless its Koei ). They tend to be more interested in "special" (for lack of better word, non english speaker) settings such as final fantasy, pokemon etc.

Doesnt mean they dont like japanese setting, but for them they see it everyday and its only been about 150 years since the boshin war and even shorter since the loss of WW2 forced them to consider and change their society. And many traditions is still deep rooted there

That and their "likes" is very different from our own. (despite them setting many "trends" of whats popular here in the west too). Touhou, vocaloids such as megurine luka and hatsune miku, naruto and pokemon all is phenomens over there (and all is japanese or taiwanese/hong kong). Hell some of them have become world wide phenomen (americans should atleast recognise most of the mentioned.)

Mmm i think i got abit lost now so ill end the post here, but basic line is: Their "likes" and curiosity is abit different from ours. I love their open mindedness and willingness to use their creativity, curiosity and fantasy to make something whacky =) (this probably stems from the isolation of the edo period )

    Singaporean here!

In case you have no idea where this exotic country is, we are in the South East region, just below Malaysia.

Well i seen a few souls playing Shogun 2 on my forays in the University libraries and my fellow aspiring historians would have played it if their computer could handle it~
Its not as popular as say the likes of DOTA 2, Diablo3, Fifa but i say its a good start to at least not be the only person playing it~

I have interest in warfare being an Army Officer though my taste is more for the Steel and Cavalry kind than gunpowder warfare~ For some strange reason though, i cant seem to get into Medieval 2. It just feels overwhelming and less refined than Shogun 2. ( Well its a older title so i guess i cant blame it) Am hugely enjoying Mount and Blade though which is just up my alley

    Any Singaporeans here?
