RS2.5 wont' load

Haven't logged in in 2 years... probably haven't played RS since then. It never worked, but I thought I'd try again with 2.5. Now I get this as soon as I hit play in the modlauncher.

I'm using Win7, Steam, RTW Gold and Clean install.

I wiped and did it again; same result. Keep in mind RTW wasn't even installed until today; I haven't played it at all.

I made sure I patched RTW to 1.5 and BI to 1.6.

I've come out of perpetual lurker status just to post here.

Same exact error message for me.

Clean install done today, RTW, BI, ALX and patched up fully, double checked.

Followed the instructions here and here to the letter. Been modding for years, so I'm pretty sure I did it right.

All three exe files give the same error messsage.

Ok, manage to make it work with STEAM, Win7 and RTW Gold 1.5.

1. Clean install of RTW 1.5
2. Move your Steam folder to somewhere else (no Program Files x86)
3. Download RS2 and RS2.5
4. Install RS2 on a new 'X' folder on your desktop.
5. Install RS2.5 on the same 'X' folder.....install should ask for rewrite files>YES
6. Copy the entire content of the desktop 'X' folder to your Steam folder (steamapps/common/Rome Total War Gold)
7. Go to Steam-->Properties-->Set launch options......and add the line -mod:play_Rome -show_err -nm (if playing with Rome)
8. Use Launcher normally
9. Done

When I got the error, I was using Rome as a faction and RTW.exe (but I tried with several factions and BI.exe ALEX.exe)

Have you tried doing what nkkop did, minus the Steam things?

1. Clean install of RTW 1.5
2. Copy it, and paste the folder somewhere (no Program Files x86)
3. Download RS2 and RS2.5
4. Install RS2 on a new 'X' folder on your desktop.
5. Install RS2.5 on the same 'X' folder.....install should ask for rewrite files>YES
6. Copy the entire content of the desktop 'X' folder to your RTW folder (overwrite -> yes)
7. Done

Yeah, in a few hours maybe. Gives me a chance to install on my backup drive too. By RTW 1.5 you mean RTW 1.5 and BI 1.6 correct?

Ok,doin this I have solved the problem. I can say that this is the only way to avoid the error!

Yep.

This time, if you don't want to have to reinstall RTW and BI later, simply keep a back up copy of the clean RTW/BI folder.
You just need to install all your mods on copies; if you want to install another mod, simply do another copy.

The error probably comes from the installation in the program files. Some things were not correctly copied, thus the bug.
