Greece, which is in a bad economic situation, is launching a big privatization program and they are turning to their old time rival Turkey.

The strange thing is that Turkish want to buy the ports! I really don't understand how a country will sell the ports to some country that it considers its enemy.

Turkish officials said on wednesday that the only exit route for Greece in the future is to increase the trade with Turkey as it's the only country in region with a good economic situation.

PS. We usually shrink about x1.5 than predicted. I expect we will shrink 6-7%. Turkey has a GDP of nearly a Trillion. Since they don't get in the EU to give us a few billions they can help us with trade. The previous goverment took many steps to strengthen trade ties with Turkey and some Greeks are leaving for Constantinople looking for work.
So yeah, I can understand that we look for buyers there.

There is nothing wrong with investments and trade, because there are no long-term friends or long-term enemies, there are only long-term interests. However, I doubt that Greeks would sell ports such as Thessaloniki to the Turks or anyone else for that matter. Not even Azerbaijan would do that and let alone Greece. As for Ataturk being born there, there is nothing strange with that, almost all modern Turkish leaders were born somewhere else and not being entirely or only half of Turkic origin.

It's really sad that the city was accidentally burned and that the Jews whose properties survived were then deported by the Germans.

Not really. I would rather trust certified polling companies and newspapers rather than a site. Especially when they say crap like Extreme right being the 2nd largest party and a former royalist / Kinda Pro-junta / turned populist MP's party being first.

And to those of you with the (not funny) jokes about us selling land:
We sell the rights to ports. We make trade deals.
We are not, and we're not going to sell land. All those ports will be under Greek law and under Greek juristiction. Greek economy will shrink, Greece no.
