Pandora: A Great Way To Discover New Music

I recently discovered this program called Pandora, made by The Music Genome Project. It is a sort of customisable radio which plays in your browser. You enter the name of a song or an artist, and Pandora will play songs that are similar to what you entered (as well as what you entered). You can further customise your channel by telling the program if you like, or don't like, the songs that it is playing; or you can enter more songs and artists to expand the playlist. In this way you can make different channels all playing the type of music you like - and you can discover new artists in the process.

Pandora is currently only available to US residents, but you only have to enter a fake five digit US Zip-code to get it to work for non-residents.

I have now got about six different channels, each with a different musical style, and I've discovered massive amounts of new great music. Check it out!

I've tried it now...seems pretty cool indeed. Definatly going to try this some more.

I'm quite impressed though. After saying I liked Rage Against the Machine, it accuratly managed to predict I would like AC/DC, the Smashing Pumpkins, GnR and...one other band.

I actually added Rage the first time I tried it too.

I've been trying it out some more...this thing is brilliant. It's not only put out alot of my favorite songs, but also some by bands I wouldnt have ever thought of, or even heard of.

That's awesome. I've always wanted something like this, just didn't know it existed.

The only thing that I don't like about it is that sometimes the new references are so obscure they're hard to obtain...freeish.

I've probably bought about 10 CDs now thanks to Pandora.

Hmm, I made a search for it and there was no thread on the subject.

I think it sucks, not a single lick of music I like. A useless waste of my valuable time. It will always be CDs for me.

I see you like classical music. They haven't added any classical to the database yet:

The Music Genome Project doesn't contain any classical music at this time. We're still trying to figure out how to tackle that animal... In the meantime, there are some great web sites out there that cater to the classical audience, for example check out KUAT-fm a great 128Kbps classical streaming station.

Hmm, I'm not sure. They're doing system maintenance right now, so I can't check either. It did play 'May It Be' from LotR, though.

Pandora has been updated with some nice new features - if you're using it you've probably discovered them already, and if you're not using it: what are you waiting for!
