To play Roma Surrectum, before Roma Surrectum 2? Like are they simliar enough, that its suggested to play the first? Eventually, I'd like to play Roma Surrectum 2, but I'm just curious if I should play the first one first.

No, it really isn't necessary. In fact, RS2 is far more developed than RS1.6.

RS1....or the final Patched version of that (1.6).....was more strictly my brainchild. A few people joined the team; Tone started to learn some modeling; a number of unit textures were changed.....but a great deal of stuff we used in RS1 was borrowed with permission from others. It was also the beginning of our changing the RTW environment, with basically a bunch of alterations to existing RTW textures and the additions of a few trees, some new ground textures, etc. You might say it was the 'testing ground', or where we learned a lot about how to manipulate RTW. The result then, was carried on into the new mod (RS2), which we intended to be far more extensive in what was changed or improved.
But I still have a 'soft spot' in my heart for old RS1.6. First mod with named and numbered Legions, and it was a lot of fun to play. At least I thought so.![]()

Dumb question, but if my laptop can handle vanilla M2TW, could it handle RS and RS2?
Probably yes.

I think that I may just play a couple of campaigns in RS 1.6, to get my feet wet seeing how it would be my first mod.
Edit - By any chance is there a visual guide or video to install RS 1.6? I'm just asking because the last time I tried installing a mod, I failed and never tried it again.

No need for that, and RS 2 is a very different beast. The problem with RS 1.6 now, is that if you ask on the 1.6 forums, your questions will tend to hang around unanswered for some while - it's not used much now. Ask here on 2 and you'll get loads of answers. The mechanics of how it plays are very similar but better in 2.x anyway.

So you're saying I should forgot about RS1 and just go to RS2?
Just go and play RS2. Play RS 1.6 to compare for the fun of it

I tried downloading RS2, but it kept saying I was missing Cab1, so I tried doing it, but to no avail. I was going to try the zipfiles, but it would take 450 + minutes.
Meme aside, what order should I download the files? I tired the msi one first, but it told me I was missing a cab1, so I did all the cabs, then tried msi again, and it still didn't work.
I doesn't matter what order they are downloaded in. They have to be in the same file however when you launch the setup.exe or .msi. If this does not work download cab1 and retry. And if that doesn't work, start again.
I raged and uninstalled both RTW and RTW BI, so I'll try again tonight. When I did the MSI, I did the first file it gave me, but it then said I was missing CAB1. When I did the CABs, I never saved them, but opened them. So when I reinstall RTW BI, what should I do?
1. Download all the cab files and msi to a temporary directory. Do NOT unpack the cab files. Let's call it c:\downloads\rs2
2. Install RTW and BI to c:\Games\Rome Total War
3. Copy c:\Games\Rome Total War to c:\Games\Roma Surrectum
4. Run the msi file and ensure that you make the installation folder c:\games\Roma Surrectum in the installer.
5. Now run the 2.5 installer, use the video here to install 2.5.
6. Start up the RS and enjoy.
