Damn, I won't be able to get the game until tomorrow. Looks like I'll have to stick with reading the updated encyclopedia...

I've started a campaign with the Saga clan (they start off in northwest kyushuu) and attacked the island clan most to the west. I tried the ship bombard feature on the land battle that happened there. Pure awesomeness.

I'm just waiting for the American battle advisor to go: "Sir, we have accidently killed many of our allies with friendly fire".

If you have purchased shogun 2, then yes, it needs to be downloaded because in this case fots acts as an update. The point CA should have made is 'fots does not require Shogun 2 in order to play it, unless you have already bought Shogun 2.'

People who haven't bought Shogun 2 - can install fots without it.

Cheers its nice to have a heads up .

The problem is on the back of my game box it says does not require the base or original game but in this case it really does and that will surely make people angry !

FOTS is essentially an extension of Shogun 2. If you only buy FOTS it will also install the base engine of Shogun 2.

Nobody seems to be playing co-op campaign

In terms of gameplay, it just seems like Napoleon/Empire to me with the addition of more powerful melee units. Ships seem to be pretty integral to succeeding in the campaign and the Metsuke-like agent whose name I forget seems extremely over-powered - I was inciting revolts for 500-1000 left right and centre, spawning half stacks every 3 or 4 turns in my enemies provinces. Got all this from about an hour of playing.

I have now played a few hours and I am having a lot of fun. Yes the battle advisor voice is wretched and there are some very minor things that annoy me (people flying unrealistically far when a wall get hits by a cannonball). For now I am happy I bought it. The art style is beautiful and you get this feeling that the game is really well polished. With the new tech tree and cities it brings a new twist in strategy since buildings slots and recruitment slots are divided. That means that if you want more buildings you need to upgrade the city but if you want more recruitment slots you will need to upgrade the castle. In the tech tree there are also some changes, you can no longer upgrade all the way trough. First you will have to upgrade your modernization tier (there are four) before you can start upgrading onwards. I like this since it forces you to choose different directions instead of just rushing for the Gatling gunz troloolol.

There are so much more I can talk about but I will leave it that. I am enjoying myself. Prepare for a more in depth in Total Warcast this weekend.

Sounds a lot like Paradox's Sengoku to me.

The campaign map and especially the campaign ship models don't really look up to par, and I've maxed my settings.

Loving the gameplay so far. Also clever of them to tie the shinobi with the traditional dojo, so if you want them in any number you're going to have to slow down your ability to advance.

Seems like there's more Imperial clans than Shogunate clans, though that could just be me.
