Default Apple : The most evil software company?

    http://wosland.podgamer.com/the-dark-side-of-digital/

    tl;dr
    1. Developer release and sell game
    2. Developer make weekend promo (free dl) and many people dl for free
    3. After several month still not satisfy with the amount of money they received
    4. Developer put a pay wall to forced every user including the user that already buy the game to pay again.
    5. Apple defend the developer, no refund policy!

If this true, 1 day DLC is nothing compare to this.

While Microsoft is having a few problems dealing with the upstart outfit Apple, it has one thing that it can be smug about. It is considered more ethical than Jobs' Mob.
According to The Ethisphere Institute, Microsoft is one of the 145 most ethical companies followed by Adobe, Salesforce.com, Symantec, Teradata, and Wipro.
The news flies in the face of most people's perception of Vole as the most ruthless outfit in the world, one which would sell its own grandmother for medical experiments if it thought it could make a bob or two.
The Ethisphere Institute is "a leading international think-tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability."
It says that its list looks at companies that truly go beyond, making statements about doing business "ethically" and translate those words into action.
"WME honorees not only promote ethical business standards and practices internally, they exceed legal compliance minimums and shape future industry standards by introducing best practices today," its web site says.
So it looks like Microsoft has put its past behind it and has become a good Vole. One thing that is telling is that Apple, which markets itself as ethical, clean and green, did not even make the list.

A bit simplistic; but just look at the owners (former owners) of Apple and Microsoft, and there general track records with 'generosity'. Jobs talked a good game, but was basically a fraud wrapped in a Buddhist blanket. Gates is by all accounts, a fair man. His company (former company, whatever) is a lighting rod.

Yup, compare to apple, microsoft is more transparent, it's ruthless but it did what it said and more fair to customer, different price for student and non profit use, etc2.

btw just curious, but can someone explain it to me why this thread moved to basement? Basement is for more technical side of tech, no?

I'm sure you could do a nice paper on the personality types who are apple 'fan boys'.

I find you have group one. Those are just people sucked in by marketing who have NO idea what a computer really is, or even the vaguest ideas of how they work. For them they hear 'no viruses' or the like and 'it just works' and they are happy. These are the people who don't grasp that tool bars are bad, bonzi buddy really isn't your friend, and that virus warning poppups are scams. These people are not all that interesting being they just don't know what they are talking about and are consumers due to adds alone.

The group that interests me are those who do know better. I have a great friend like this. While he never got into the tech side as much as me, he definitely understands computers, have had PC's for years before switching to mac, is smart enough to know that Mac pricing is a rip off, is intelligent enough to build his own systems if he chooses, and yet he is a complete fanboy. He even stopped gaming because the type of games he used to play are not on Mac. I try to explain the price rip off and he just can't seem to believe it. If apple does something anti-consumer he justifies it, its the old joke about apple being a religion for some people. I find it also interesting that people like this I know, I also know their politics without asking. It seems to be something psychological going on.

Apple does make good products, which is why all my mobile devices are apple (for now), but I just don't get the you are EITHER apple or PC mind set.

As for my friend I will get him back into PC gaming, its my mission

Yes, it probably is. Steve Jobs was a gigantic douche - it's been long but I'm pretty sure he said on an interview he didn't care about slave work accusations against Apple factories in China . I smiled when I watched the news in 2011 saying that he was dead.

Im not even going to comment on the ethics of the companies, they both did their share of evils, however jobs as a person pale in comparison that what gates is.

They're all the same. However, I'm incredibly against closed distribution which is why I flout Microsoft and Android, but I wouldn't mind wringing those companies' necks as well.

Yes Apple should provide a way for the develop to see who paid and who didnt but really doing a Lite version and a paid version would have solved the problem. This is the develop attempting to be greedy.

Yes, maybe we could have released a LITE version, but if we release a new free version, we couldn't monetize near 2 MM free downloads we already have. And why we have 96% free downloads? A very bad old decision.. We've begun a new phase at Bravo Games and we definitely need some revenues from those downloads.
^^This is akin to a pc developer deciding to charge for a game demo after fact. If it was a bad decision when it was released like they claim it should be on their shoulders to eat it. Do a sequel under the new model of a lite and paid version and leave the old version alone. Now they have ruined their rep and Id be surprised if many people will buy their crap except the clueless.

The scary thing is that Apple fan-boys have been around for years and years. Once upon a time I did tech support for Ada compilers, and I told a user once in regard to why there was no MacOS version of the compiler, after very carefully checking the statement with CTO and the real tech heads that "Unfortunately Apple is not perceived to be a serious development platform..." cue letters to the CEO and phone calls to my boss asking for me to be fired. This must have been 95/6 - something like that.

The dumb thing was that the statement really should have read "it isn't a serious development platform" which would have been truthful, we only put perceived in to try and dissuade his from going nuts. Didn't work.

    Same attitude now, Apple
