Default Software for desktop video capture.

    Hello.

I'm planning to do a video tutorial for a mod, so I'd like to record what I am doing on the desktop as well as record sound through a microphone.
Is there some free software for windows that would do that, and that is rather easy to use? Also, if the video and sound were independent, that would help for some minor editing.

    Thanks.

    CamStudio works fairly well.

I just tried camstudio and it's great! One thing though: My screen started flashing a green screen of death while recording and it stopped by checking: "hide flashing rectangle during recording" I really don't know why the option exists.

It's so you can see what part of the screen it's recording, I think.

Thank you Bolkonsky, it worked great.

However, I now have 7 different videos, and I'd like to merge them in one.
I've tried Windows movie maker, but it crashes as soon as I try to load a video (the same thing happens with Windows media player).
I've also tried Virtualdub, but my video is mostly a black screen, with sounds.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Hmm, weird. You might not have proper drivers and codecs installed. What's your OS?

Windows 7 SP1 64bit, everything should be up to date.

Edit : The format is .avi.
Also, could the problem comes from different bitrate for the videos?

I'll be honest, I really don't know. Are you using the Live Movie Maker?

I've tried, but as I said it crashes immediately; that's why I used something else, but to no avail.

EDIT :I think I've managed to solve my problem. It seems the difference in bit rat or frame rate was at the origin of the problem.
Thanks a lot for your help.
