DDs and photoshop cs. plug-ins

Hi all just need a little help from the community i cannot seem to open dds files i.e diffuse etc. i have dl the nvidia plug-in for photoshop CS but when i try to open in PS.CS i get a cannot open .. wrong type of document? given that i have did many mods with the TWc.. i am at a loss.... i have perhaps for got something really simple.

any ideas.

i use GIMP (it is free) and once you get the .dds plugin (also free), then it opens every sort of ETW picture file like a charm.

so maybe try that instead, im sorry i cant give you any photoshop advice

Thread moved out of the tutorial section to misc section. Don't create threads there unless you are submitting a tool\tutorial or a resource related to ETW, it's a repository.

Re-install the plugin again & make sure you are installing the right version whether, x86 or x64 type, depending upon your PS\OS type. Lastly ensure that the DDS file you extracted from it is not corrupt.

Yes i have dds all that removed uninstalled reinstalled the plug in.. but every time i try to open the diffuse file i get and message. I am using this Photoshop_Plugins_x64_8.52.0208.1800.exe

this is odd as i have been involved in many mods on this forum using PS then i got a new pc reinstalled ps and the plug ins but not sure what it is i am doing wrong.

Which version Photoshop have you?

Is that the only exception or you can't open these particular DDS files only? Upload the sample file here and i'll try to open it on my PS. And you're using a 64 bit version of plugin & if it installed correctly then it means your OS is 64 bit type, so just make sure you are running x64 version of PS not the 32 bit version.

Either the plugin is not installed properly or the file is corrupt. This is something we will find out together.

sorry for the late reply just got in from work., yeah i am using the 64 bit version as i run OS 64. the files i have tried to open on files that are used in Empire dds files that are broken into gloss normal and diffuse all texture files.

attached is a file that i have tried but been unable to open, how ever this failure to open files dds seems to happen to any file i try to open.

running Photoshop CS.

I think I know where is your problem, I just solved mine...

try to reinstall n-vidia plugin, but when installer offer you directory where to install, it offer C/program files/ adobe...., you should try to type C/Program Filesx86/adobe/ps cs5....

try this and let me know did this solved problem

So obviously the problem lies in the installation of the DDS filter & from the pictures provided above it's clear that DDS file type is not recognized yet by your PS.

Go in your PS and in help>About photoshop. It will display the proper version and then install the right DDS filter for it.

I have just reinstalled dds plugins and looked at filters and i cannot see nv tools? even though i have just installed the program plug in????

Hi Gary, I saw your message. I was able to open your hussar texture without any trouble. I am not too good at computers, and am sorry could not be of any help. I am only good at finding resources for Prussian uniforms.
I hope you will find the way to fix it.

ah ok mate thanks for your reply anyway.. i guess i will have to give up on modding... sad.

dont do that, just get GIMP for free and use that for the empire files only if you like using photoshop for other projects. it wont bite

Hi, when you mean what version do you mean Photoshop version or nvidea plug in?

just had a look in (about photoshop... ) it is version 8.

when you say (launch from the exe 32 bit) not sure what you mean buy that as... (down load dds plug in 64 bit .). install then, chose a file diffuse file, open it up in photoshop CS something i have done countless times in the past as it is a fairly straight forward thing. with the plug in photoshop should just open up the file.... so i am at a loss have trawled through the net and found nothing.
