    Hufflepuff Common Room
    Head of House: Professor Harold Gupta

    Students belonging to this house are known to be hard-working, friendly, loyal, honest and rather impartial. It may be that due to their values, Hufflepuffs are not as competitive as the other houses, or are more modest about their accomplishments. They are accessed through a pile of large barrels, found stacked in a shadowy stone recess on a right-hand side corridor near the kitchens. The barrel two from the bottom, middle of the second row, will open if tapped in the rhythm of Helga Hufflepuff'.

    Professor Gaputa enters the common area leading a group of first year students who had gotten lost, before entry however, he taps the now well memorized pattern off to the side to ensure his arthritis doesn’t prevent him from entering. Only once confident that he won’t end up embarrassing himself in front of the students, does Harold tap the pattern on the door which then opens. After leading the students into the room the Professor turns to them and says. “Welcome children to Hufflepuff, I am Professor Gaputa , head of this fine House. Now I know this isn’t the most gloriously remembered house, and for that matter not the first choice of some of you, in fact it might have been the last choice for a few. “He smiles warmly not looking hurt or mad at those students who, obviously falling into the two mentioned categories now avoid meeting his eyes, before continuing. “That’s alright, there’s no reason to be ashamed it’s just our nature to want to follow in the footsteps more trotted by historic figures. But Hufflepuff stands alone in that regard, we are among the few in the world both Magical, and Muggle alike who go on down the right path not merely in the name of glory or, no we do so because it is right. We are the unsung heroes of wizarding community, making our contributions to the world while expecting little in return. In fact we are in some ways the stronger men and women for as it has been said “it takes a strong man to stand up for himself, but it takes a stronger man to stand up for others” and this is one of the principles that this house values, we do what is right not only for ourselves but also for other, however we do so not in hopes of fame and reward, no we do so because it is the right thing to do. “At this point he smiles and looks around at all the students and finishes “Well I do hope you get what I’m trying to say and not loose heart as Hufflepuff is not so bad, but enough of the ramblings of an old man, Boys your dorm is to the left, girls the right, I’ll be in my classroom reading for tomorrows lesson in charms, if any of you need anything you can find me there.” With that he turns and leaves to prepare for the start of classes.

    Andrew was rather exhausted from a days studies as he slumped into the Common room; rather tired as he found something to perch upon as he looked at the other socializing students with a little envy.

    Ashley sits in a chair reading one of her textbooks, remaining silent but apparently listening to the two boys converse.

    "So Andrew, what's life like for you out in the Muggle World?"
    Andrew meekly responded, slightly happy that he had someone to talk with.

    "I guess it's alright, it's very plain and boring compared to the magical world. It's just my parents find the human world rather 'fascinating."

    He paused a moment;

    "Where abouts are you from?"

    Andrew noticed the girl in the chair as she momentarily looked their way, observing her quickly before he turned his attention back to Fritz.

    "I live out in the country with my Uncle and 5 of my cousins. He's unemployed and hunts for our food, so we didn't have very many indulgences. we scrape by, but my Uncle realy hates me. Thats why going to Hogwarts was a godsend for me."

    "Is your Uncle not a wizard?"

    Andrew felt rather rude asking such a personal question, beginning to regret it after he spoke.

    "No, he is, but he's somewhat of an outcast of the wizarding world, and wants to be as far away from it as possible."

    Relieved that he had not offended Fritz, Andrew began to fall back to his composed self.

    "You said you were interested in werewolves right? Do you like mythical beats and creatures then? I haven't really seen many, living in the muggleworld and all."

    "I've seen some when my Uncle took us out on trips when he was sober. Werewolves interest me te most, but Hippogrifs are also really cool."

    Fritz sighs

    "My Uncle is actually pretty nice when he's sober, but he almost never is, unfortunately."

    Wanting to lighten the mood; he decided to try and be proactive and amiable.

    "I heard there is some very fascinating creatures in the Forbidden forest; perhaps we could go visit the groundskeeper and see what we can find. That is of course if you want to; I wouldn't be adverse to a game of Wizard chess in the Library either."

    Fritz ponders it

    "I like that idea, and it is always helpful to make friends with the staff. Lets see if we can get Hagrid to like us. I hear he is quite a nice fellow."

    Andrew beamed with excitement; rushing to his bunk together some stuff before he returned once more.

    "I'll meet you outside the Great Hall in an hour..."

    He stopped mid sentence; forgetting about the other girl present in the room, remembering he had thought he had seen her paying attention to their conversation. He swiveled to face her;

    "Do you wish to come as well.....?"

    It had just approached evening time and Andrew was as per usual wandering around with his charms book; reading various pages which piqued his interest, however there were a few pages he did not really understand and was rather puzzled by. After a brief moment of thought he decided it would be wise to approach his Charms teacher, who conveniently enough was also head of Hufflepuff; so he wandered around the common room, hoping to catch him if he was around.

    Professor Gaputa then sees the boy as he is reading to leave, having just settled some dispute among two Hufflepuff first years. Seeing Andrew with his charms book the professor says with his usual kind smile
    "Hello Andrew, are you doing your charms homework?"

    Andrew looked rather relieved to see the professor; he wouldn't have to worry his head during the night on his conundrum.

    "Ah Yes; I finished reading the chapter this morning during my walk down by the Black lake."

    He paused; wondering how to phrase his question.

    "Professor; I've been trying to figure out what the difference is between the Aguamenti and Aqua Eructo spells. I'm trying to try my hand at a few spells when I'm outside in the fields, but I just did not know what the clear differences are between the two spells. Would you be able to help me?"
