Default A Game of Thrones MMORPG

Apperently, there's an Westeros MMORPG in the workshop at Bigpoint (the creators of Battlestar Galactica Online). Here's some screenshots and an interview about the game on VentureBeat:

    Clicky!

This sounds way more appealing than the RPG game Cyanide is currently working on in my opinion.

What do you think about it? Has anyone here played Battlestar Galactica Online, and if so, what do you imagine we can expect from Bigpoint? Let the discussion.... COMMENCE!

    Ah yes, noticed that now

But hey, didn't came anything from it, so maybe we shall try again? Maybe if a passing moderator would glance here sometime, he might merge the threads if it pleases him.

And yeah, I really hope they make the combat system good. Preferably like Age of Conan, with some tweaks.

I've played Battlestar Galactica Online. It is good for being a free MMO but if they're making it free to play I don't know if the quality will be what you want it to be. That picture does look rather good though...

Time will tell, but I would have liked to see it developed by someone bigger and I wouldn't mind paying monthly for it probably.

Oh god, an other MMO. Why do these damn things keep coming? I'll be a happy man when MMO:s are dead, burried and gone.

Why this resentment for MMO's? Except for their time-and-soul-consument?

I'll refer to the posts above me. They put it rather well I would think.

I'm another MMO-hater, but it's not the massively multiplayer concept that bugs me, it's that they're all exactly the same, same rpg mechanics unchanged for decades reskinned with new Intellectual Property every now and then.

Ontop of the fact that i find the RPG genre in general to be insufferably stagnant, the true crime is that MMO's make your Characters power only proportional to time.

There's never any real gameplay in the combat, never! And no need for player skill because that enemy who played for a year before you is level 475 and has 99,999HP and you can't kill him anyway! Want to defeat others players? play for longer

Sorry that's my mini rant , but I like the concept of MMO's, I Love the middle ages and i want to see something more than the status quo.

(I have a rant for the FPS genre too)

Always good with discussions mate! Rant or not Personally though, I am of another opinion. If the combatsystem is good and balanced enough, a skilled player can beat a better leveled/geared player. AoC, apart from its grave caster/melee inbalance was a good example of this. On the other hand though, investment of time and gameing SHOULD be justly awarded.

The main thing I think is bad with MMO's, is said timecomittment. If you want good gear and be skilled, you have to invest SO much into it. It's not like in a FPS game when by the end of the story/campaign, you know how to play properly.

The company doesn't seem to be big enough to take on this project. From the article.
Bigpoint has more than 250 million registered users. Last year, investors Summit Partners and TA Associates bought a majority stake in Bigpoint for $350 million in a deal that valued Bigpoint at $600 million. Bigpoint has more than 800 employees now.
I will be interested to see if they can pull off a decent MMORPG set in the universe of A Song of Ice and Fire. I have tried WoW but only lasted about two days before I uninstalled it. Hopefully this will be better. Atleast I will know the world and be excited to jump into it.

Im not a fan of MMORPG's i played a little WoW but never really got into it. I hate having to pay continuesly whilst playing the game. There should be one time fee when you purchase the game and that should be that. If this is a free-to-play then i will give it a go, if not...

or like a pay per update system so companies actualy have some encouragement to improve and add on to their game however i can see the 2 mb downloads costing 10$ already

MMOs killed epic Strategy games(Wc3-WoW BFME-LOTRO) should make an epic strategy game with complexity of Westeros and its problems/wars.

They didnt killed them, they just focused on more importen things ( I have played both Wc3 and Bfme 1 and 2), and im pretty sure that Blizzard is going to release a Wc 4 one day, just like starcraft. and people didnt like bfme 2 that much, but I did, becouse it was a bit fun.

But I completely get what you are saying about "epic strategy game with complexity of Westeros and its problems/wars", and a very "Weak" company tried to do it and only end up doing it half ass'ed. (funny game for a 3 hours time, then its just mehh)

But I would Say wait for a mod to Crusader kings 2 if you wish to get into the "backstabbing thingie" or if you all about conqouring Westros wait for this mod to med 2 tw.

But in the end I will give this mmo a chance, becouse I got a thing for mmos, but my faith is weak.

That looks great. I can't believe that will be free...Surely it will have a free version and a pay to play version...

Like most Free To Play games, it will probably have a micro-transaction system with xp and money boosts, character slots etc.
