Was having a Rome session last night playing as Thrace, about 10 turns in I managed to acquire Bylazora through diplomatic means (ceasefire with Macedon in exchange for Bylazora).
Anyway, I wanted to hold the Macedonia where they were to be a buffer state between myself and the Brutii to protect my advance East into Asia Minor, that all fell apart in the 17th turn when Macedon decided they wanted to re-take Bylazora with three full stacks. Like a fool I left only a small sized garrison (a general, 4 units of militia hoplites, 4 units of falxmen and 2 units peltests) in Bylazora and my armies were in the East so it was down to the small garrison to hold the city until I could bring one of my armies back to help them.
I thought there was no way I would hold the city but I managed to hold it for five separate attacks using a combination of milita hoplites, peltests and falxman to hold the streets leading to the town centre without having the chance to retrain my troops or repair the walls. The last few battles were desperate even having to charge my general in to hold the line but they prevailed through five separate attacks and the army from the East arrived to relieve the embattled and tired troops who desperately needed to be retrained (some of the units only had 20 men left in them).
