RTW acting funny after reinstalling OS

Hey experts

I have trouble playing RTW on my older XP PRO laptop after i have reinstalled XP PRO on it.
I have installed a legit CD version og RTW 1.5 + BI.
1. I can't see the loading screens beside the red bar on a black screen. How can this be fixed?
2. My archers and javelins have unlimited arrows/spears. Can this be set to normal?
3. When i exit battles it sometimes CTD. Not always, but sometime and it's annoying!
4. My other laptop are sent to repair and i need a hella good mod for RTW?

1. Post your laptop specs (dxdiag will do).
2. Look in the 'preferences.txt' file. There is an entry like: LIMITED_AMMO:FALSE change it to LIMITED_AMMO:TRUE
3. Sometimes it's best to wait a while before accepting the results of a battle. There are known bugs in R:TW - one such is the 'reforcement bug' where you are laying siege to a settlement and a relieving army attacks.
4. I'd get RTW working smoothly first and then try a mod. Which mod to use depends on what era you want to play. There are many decent mods out there to cover all periods and fantasy worlds.

Thx for your answer! I just installed the Roma Surrectum II mod(love it!!) and now i sometime see the loading screens. I can live with that...

I have looked up 'preferences.txt' and it says "LIMITED_AMMO:TRUE" and i still have unlimited arrows/javelins
Another bug/problem i have is the auto-fire button and the 3 buttons at that line is never available to me!

Not sure if the DxDiag can help, but i attached it to this reply...
I have the complete package: Rome, Babarian Invasion and Alexander.

With RSII there is a preferences.txt file for each type of campaign - so it's probably not the one in the 'preferences' folder in the main game folder (where the exes are). There is still a 'preferences' folder inside each 'play_faction' folder.

Note: if you've not launched the faction specific campaign there won't be a preferences folder (it will be copied from the preferences.txt file in the 'preferences' folder in the main game folder).
