The Triumph of Maximinius Atilius Regulus, Consul of Rome, circa 94 BC
Throngs of citizens, numbering thousands upon thousands, lined the streets as Maximinius Atilius Regulus, Consul of Rome, returned from the subjugation of Allobroges, one of Rome's greatest threats. For his dedication, service to Rome and victories, the Consul had been awarded a triumph by the Senate; many citizens and senators agreed that Maximinius deserved such an honor. The IX Rapax, one of the most famous and elite legions of the Republic, marched into Rome, chanting songs of Maximinius's glory and prowess as they entered the gates of Rome. The Consul had hoped to use his personal legion, XVI Gallica, but they were being transferred to the Spanish frontlines where they would be needed in the coming year.
The cohorts of the IX Rapax marched in perfect order and formation. Their armor recently polished and glimmering within the sunlight; a proud display of Rome's fine soldiers and their prowess. Plums stuck out of their helmets and their banners were beautifully adorned. Between the ranks of the legionnaires, wagons were pulled, bearing weapons and armor of all purposes: spears, swords, axes, shields, helmets, bows and javelins. Among the treasures were even the known and capable Gallic war steeds; many that had been captured during Maximinius's campaign and would've get use in Rome's future. These proud and powerful steeds had been cleaned and groomed as they were navigated by handlers through the streets of Rome. Following the vanguard came a procession of 500 Italian cavalry; beautiful adorned in their armor and shields. The cheers of the people welcomed these great veterans home. But soon these cheers and welcomes turned to jeers and insults...
In the middle of the procession, behind the Italian cavalry, came a long procession of five thousand Allobroges; all ready to be enslaved and bought. The women were exposed while the men who tattered rugs; their heads bowed and hands tied. Rotten food was hurled at them as Romans threw insults upon them. Many of the men jeered at the naked women, sending forth strings of sexist remarks that made the Roman women laugh. The men were ridiculed and spat upon where they walked for their ignorance in trying to march upon Rome and believing in their "great warlord." Among this procession was an elevated wagon where the humiliating display of the "great" warlord, Dumnorix was seen, who appeared wretched and filthy. Stripped of his proud armor and only clothed in a dirty rag. Two legionnaires escorted the wagon as the man kept his head bowed with his hair hiding his face; rotten vegetables and fruit thrown at him by the citizens. Once these part of the procession continued, renewed cheers ensued.
The final few cohorts of IX Rapax came into view and finally, the majestic and proud appearance of Consul Regulus upon a chariot. The crowds roar with great praise and cheers to the sight of Maximinius. He wore his best military uniform; polished and well-kept for this occasion. He stood proudly upon the chariot as his eyes gazed upon the people of Rome that cheered for him. Accompanied by him were the standards of five legions under his command and the offices of Consul and Praetor, which he had served in. Maximinius's mind wondered upon his wife and son, whom he had yet to meet. The Consul hoped to see them soon...but for now, it was a moment of glory for Rome, her people...and him. The large crowd of people followed the chariot towards the Curia, continuing with their songs of praise and cheers to the Consul.
The procession would lead up to the Temple of Jupiter and finally the steps of the Curia.
At this point, the priests of Jupiter and Mars as well as other various deities came forth and offered sacrifices and prayers to their gods as a thanks for the safe return of their Consul and the preseveration of the Republic. The Senators would appear once the religious duties were done. And now...the festivities could begin! As had been arranged by the Senate, mass amounts of food had been bought and brought forth for all. The services of many entertainers from dancers to singers and actors to poets all gathered within the area of the festivities and to entertain the crowd. Various and valuable items from the Allobroges were brought forth and displayed for the people. Maximinius, having changed into his full regalia, approached the crowd and raised his hands to silence them.
Citizens of Rome! Sons and Daughters of the Republic! I thank you for the honors and praises you throw before me. It deeply moves me to see such faithful citizens to Rome and those who act in her name. Know that this is not all about my victories, but about Rome's victory...and the victory that was earned due to the dedication and effort of her sons and our legionnaires. I served my home, my country out of the sense of duty to Rome. This feast and celebration is to honor all that did their part and duty to Rome...for she rewards the hard working and dedicated for their efforts.
Then the Consul turned to the crowd of Senators...those he saw as rivals, friends and even family. His brothers that had kept the support and faith with him. Maximinius could not thank them enough.
Noble Senators, you have deeply honored me with this triumph and celebration for my services in defending our homeland. Know too that I did my service to Rome out of my sense of duty and dedication to our beautiful Republic. Honors are merely mortal titles and earthly rewards...the true reward is seeing Rome strong and preserved. And that her citizens are well and no longer in fear of the Allobroges. Come! Join me in celebration for Rome's victory over the Alpine savages.
Thus with those words, the Consul dismounts his chariot and heads off to his reserved table that was set up among the festivities. His eyes gazed upon the many entertainments and the smiles of citizens as they enjoyed games, dancing and song. His table was solely reserved for the Senatorial class only.
(I will ask for NO OOC. This is my first time doing a Triumph...so please, no facts or anything. If you wanna talk about something like facts or anything, go to the OOC Thread. Lets just enjoy this the way it is.)
