Incoming sound in Skype problem

Skype worked fine for the last 3 years then it started to go wrong a few weeks ago. I live in UK and each time I talk with my parents (france) on Skype, I can hear clearly the begining of each of their sentence but then the sound volume decrease rapidly to complete silence, and it happens each time they talk. They can hear me very well all the time and this problem only happens with me, everyone they talk to have no problem. We tried with/without video. I haven't changed any hardware and the only things I installed were the automatic updates that vista do when I shut down.

I'd suggest uninstalling it and then downloading and reinstalling the latest version.

Most probably an audio driver update reset'ed your audio settings. Re-calibrate your mic and see if the problems still persists. Skype also has a test for such things, you can use that also after you're done checking your audio settings.

Skype tells me everything is working well.

Go with Taiji's advice then alternatively you can try your luck with system restore also, perhaps a month old restore point might resolve it.
