Domus Merulana
Lucius Cornelius Merula. (Born in the 126 BC, now 32 year old)
He was born in the bosom of an aristocratic family. His world was furnished with marble heads of those patrician ancestors who lived and died serving the Republic. Men he honored and respected. His Rome was their Rome.
Nevertheless, there was something a bit awkward about this branch of the Cornelii gens. It started with his great grandfather. He served under the eagles of Aemilius Paulus in the war against Perseus, and there he discovered his true talent. He applied brilliantly to war something that his paedagogus taught him as child.
Knowledge is power.
And so it began the affair of the Cornelii Merula family with the field of espionage. There was not a conflict in nearly a hundred years where the intelligence reports made by their family were not of vital importance for the final roman victory.
Intelligence was their thing. It required the perfect mixture between the information gathered by agents, reports made by scouts and a great deal of understanding of the human nature.
And as true son of his father, Lucius Cornelius Merula is a worthy heir of his family business. He has proved useful to several commanders in his years as a military tribune, and has become the second in command of his family “enterprise”, wisely guided by his father and fully supported by his younger brother, Servius Cornelius Merula.
Maybe as a trait of his trade he has a hint of coolness in his eyes and his manners seem a bit distant. Tall and slim, he always has his scarce brown hair cut very short. Nevertheless, Lucius Cornelius Merula is very polite and educated, with great interest in literature and luxury.
He lives in a big house in the Quirinal hill, near the opulent villa of the knight and entrepreneur Titus Pomponius. This domus, known as Domus Merulana, was built with capital provided by his wealthy father, and is decorated with great care. There is not much ornament, but every piece you can find is carefully selected because of its quality and impeccable appearance, from the citric tables to the marble mosaics. The inner garden, beautiful and luxurious, is a motive of pride for his owner.
