Tribune Caius walks into the Curia and sits down with his fellow Senators. A smile on his face as he awaits the Consul to open the Session up

Gaius Primus enters, looking rather bored. With Lucius off in Spain he would serve as the Pro-Consul's eyes and ears in the senate.

Maximus returns from Spain, walks to his seat and begins talking.

Fellow Senators an other year has began, I hope everything is well with you.
Now for the "pressing" matters. last year I lobbied to Pro-consulship in Gaul. How are the thoughts of that now ?

    Decimus looks over at Maximus

Once again, Senator...the war continues. Once the Gallic threat has ended, then perhaps then we can lobby it.

Humble senator, Even with a war ongoing which can end any moment now, the new Gallic regions need governing so you're relative can concentrate on fighting.
Which should be done by a senator appointed by the senate for the senate.

The Barbarians need to be Romanized!(occ sounds funny does it not ? ).

Maximus takes his seat after some clapping by the other senators.

Decimus mumbles under his breath before looking at Consul Tranquilius.

I believe that with the war going on, we should keep the idea of a Gallic Proconsulate away from the table till the war is over and other regions are assessed, Consul. With the success of Consul Regulus, the Gallic regions have been kept safe...and thus the Senate will be enough to govern the lands in that region while the Consul remains at war.

Maximus also looks at Consul Tranquilius.

Consul, if the other consul should lose and the gauls come with an counter offensive the new regions will go in open revolt because they are not Roman yet! Romanize them so they dont want to serve the barbarian Gauls anymore! it is in my belief that a pro-consulate will benefit all in this matter, and
Consul Tranquilius it is all you're now.

What are you saying, Maximus? These new regions you speak of are in fact but one province. A single province is all that the Allobroges possess. They have lost over 20,000 of their finest warriors in combat now. I doubt they would be able to rise up except for peasants armed with pitchforks and dogs. It would be a breeze challenging a whirlwind...mere untrained children against our veteran northern legions.

    Decimus looks at Consul Tranquilius

I suggest we await to validate it for next term, Consul. When the Allobroges will be more subjected and their lands integrated into the Republic.

It appears that the ever elusive Gallic question will once again cause us a bit of frustration, but seeing as Consul Regulus has them under siege int their own capital at the moment, it is my opinion that the gods will soon set events in motion to help us better navigate these questions. (the battle will be done tomorrow at the latest)

In the meantime Senator Lucius Libanus has taken up the Pro-Consulship in Spain and has found it in a deplorable state. The countryside has not much been improved since the ravages of the war and the province is only being utilized in a half-hearted sort of way. Some administrative changes and reforms should make the province more amenable to greater taxation. The Pro-Consul requests a 50,000 denarii allotment to be set aside from this year's tax revenue for investment in the Spanish province.

Tribune Caius stood up to speak.

" What kind of changes and Reforms are we speaking about in the Administration ?. And why the large amount of money ?. I was under the impression that Spain was in good hands under the former Pro Consul. Had he not made these changes and reforms while he himself was pro consul ?. If not then what had he been doing as he was running the province ?. All these questions need some answers. And one final question,. What kind of investments are we speaking about ?"

"We shall discuss the matters of a pro-consulship in future when the fate of Gaul is more certain to us, maybe next year, maybe two years time, but believe me Senators it will most definitely be discussed. Now onto Spain, Senator Primus has a point, reforms are in order, have any of us suggestions on how to improve the land?"

Ah yes and of course you would not fight for you're country/tribe in this matter ?
You forgot the Italians also revolted when Hannibal crossed our lands ?

children with a sword can do as much damage as an legionnaire out of luck.

It is the Consul's decision, Maximus...why are you so upset about this? Consul Tranquilius speaks truth that it would be best to set up the Proconsulate when Gaul's future is more secure and certain. Let us set it aside and continue with what is priority on our list.

    Valerius offers a suggestion

We can upgrade the ports in Spain, like I suggested last year, as we have many valuable resources that need to be transported.

Revenue from Spain would be a good boost the Republic's economy...and can help in stimulating Roman-controlled lands with a minimal economy.
