So I finally decided to upgrade to the Napoleonic era thinking that world domination would be just another Rome or Medieval campaign. I decided to begin with the Italian campaign set on VH/VH thinking the AI would simply just run into my superior firepower and give me instant victory. My first game was an absolute disaster. I watched as my stacks of units fumbled about under cannon fire while both of my generals died from random cannon fire. As the battles went on some improvement was made but I am not use to this era of tactics.

Nevertheless I decided to try several online matches against players with quite a few golden stars next to their name. I watched every time as my forces were eventually out maneuvered and forced to slaughter by hellish firepower. A defeat in Rome online was always quick - you knew when the enemy had broken the morale of your line from a successful maneuver and defeat was rather fast after that. In Napoleon you can feel that you have been defeated early on but it is a long and shameful process of pulling back your troops and attempting to rally again and again while the enemy army slowly slaughters them all.

    What is this madness.

eh you can rally and regroup and turn the tide of the battle pretty easily. All it takes is one good cav charge or one well timed sqaure to mess up the enemy advance.

Or you could dl one of the mods that address the issue and have a very good time. Happy cannonades.

    Cheers...

    What issue exactly?
The AI not "simply just running into your superior firepower"?

He appears to be complaining about the slow pace of the MP as well.

You shouldn't play battles in VH, the VH mode only increase the stats of ennemies's units. Try in Hard and you will see the difference.

Lack of practice. Start on normal difficulty, you will slowly adapt.

I think he more has problems that he does not know the tactics..

I don't mind a drawn out loss even once the point of possibly still winning has passed. That last stand can be a lot of fun until your moral crumbles then it's truely over. I had one last stand on top of a hill, battered units in a rough circle, great stuff

    Here's some help.

    1. Units only fire from the first line, in this(except for Lights or Missile Cav), so make units 2.5 lines(as in, 2 whole lines, and a third line half as wide).

    2. Form square against Cavalry. Deploy stakes.

    3. Always defend first. Know when to strip one flank to bolster another.

    4. Light Infantry are worth it. Their fire rate and fire volume compared to Line is worth the risk of dying from cav.

    5. GET HOWITZERS. Seriously.

when the union's inspiration through the worker's blood shall run,
there can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun,
yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one?
but the union makes us strong.
