Default A Game of Rings (or a silly crossover game)

I had this idea the other night while looking at my copies of Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings sitting next to each other on the table, and no don't worry it's not about asking for a crossover submod or anything like that. It's more of a timepassing game on the forum.

So let's say Sauron was defeated whether in the War of Sauron and the Elves or The Last Alliance, doesn't really matter. In a desperate bid to escape the Dark Lord used arcane magics to escape Middle Earth and arrives somewhere in Westeros with only The 9 Rings of men in his pocket just after Eddard Stark is executed for treason. Being a cunning opportunist Sauron decides to make the best of a bad situation and decides to conquer all of Westeros and Essos and anything else he can get his grubby paws on.

In order to do this he enlists you! You are a representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos, you've been from Qarth to Astapor, from Dorne to The Wall, from the Summer Islands to the Port of Ibben. You know everything and know all the major players in the world. Through a mixture of threats and bribery Sauron will have you divulge everything you know and he wants your council.

The big question is...who should I give these nine magic rings to?

So all knowing scribes, which hapless lords, knights, kings, princes, mercenaries etc etc would you deliver into the Dark Lords clutches to number amongst his Nazgul of Ice and Fire?

You can choose any man in Westeros, Essos or anywhere else mentioned in the books but you have to give a good reason because if you give Sauron an answer he doesn't like it's off with your head, and that's if you're lucky. They have to be alive, so onyone who dies before ned Stark is out of the picture, no Rhaegar, no Robert, no Jon arryn, no Eddard Stark.

    Let the choosing begin!

1st Ring: Robert Arryn. The Vale apart from Dorne are the only parts of the Seven Kingdoms with it's forces still intact, and with the Vale offering such an perfect defensive position, he can set up his new Mordor there, after wrestling it out of control from Littlefinger, by using Robert Arryn.

Wow, your post just hit me with what a perfect Mordor the Vale would be. Mountains, a nigh impregnable fortress...

Second ring, a Tully. Brynden fits in with the Nazgul being good warriors and commanders, but Edmure would be more suited to claim power immediately.
I reckon Brynden. He already wears black, what a perfect black rider.

You could even pick Lord Hoster, the ring might revitalize him a bit...in the short term anyway.

    Any picks for Witch King?

A ring for Victarion Greyjoy - a strong man born to pillage and sack lands, raised on unforgiving lands. Not only would he be a worthy servant but some men would follow him on. And he could be used to teach new raw recruits into the ways of war. (though Euron could serve just as well)

A ring for a Khal (find the most powerful one and use him and his horde to bring new lands to the shadow)

A ring for the commander of the Golden Company (an ambitious man would follow with all the might of well trained mercenaries)

A ring for the most powerful of the red priests of Asshai. Religious people will follow blindly if the words are well spoken, and if Sauron makes another citadel with A Great Eye on top, then all red priests will bow and praise the incarnation of R'hllor.

A ring for the ruler of Astapor (or any other good slaver who knows how to train Unsullied).

Also Petyr Baelish or Tyrion Lannister should become the New Mouth of Sauron. They could change a mind or two.
Some battles are won with swords and spears, others with quills and ravens. Tywin Lannister

A ring for The Mountain that Rides...I think he is one of the best candidates for Sauronīs Nine. Ruthless, bloodthirsy, merciless...if I think about it, maybe he doesnīt even need a ring, he would join Sauron just for fun.
Also, letīs not forget Ramsay Snow...err Bolton. Thereīs another good candidate right there.

I'd pick Roose over Ramsay. He is propably as wicked as Ramsay but he is more subtle, hiding it from his enemies, decieving them, playing with them. He would be perfect for one of the rings.

1: Stannis Baratheon for his ability as a commander (possible Witch King)
2: Tywin Lannister for his gold
3: Harold Hardying for his claim to the Vale
4: Gregore Clegane for his sheer strength
5: Victarion Greyjoy for his fleet
6: Stannis Baratheon for his ability as a commander
7: Oberyn Martell for his skill as a warrior
8: Mace Tyrell due to his lands having the largest population and Oldtown
9: The High Septon for his ability to control The Faith.

Or he could just do this
    1: Tywin Lannister
    2: Edmure Tully
    3: Harold Hardying
    4: Robb Stark
    5: Doran Martell
    6: Mace Tyrell
    7: Renly Baratheon
    8: Stannis Baratheon
    9: Balon Greyjoy

This gives the Dark Lord command of all of Westeros and he can remove Joffrey then make himself the king.

"She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
"Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"

Hodor is the perfect host for Sauron's spirit. It is known.

A ring for the king. Absolute anarchy always helps. Plus he is an evil
A ring for hodor (court jester)
a ring for the now dead Ned stark. Who knows, maybe he will come back to life and you will have all the Sean bean fans on your side. Not to mention he won't go all boromir on you.
    dany
    Khal Drogo
    Aegon
    Jon snow
Breinne. She's not as ugly with a hood on.
    Gregor Clegane. He's fricking huge.

With five rings on Hodor's right hand, and four on his left...even red R'hllor wouldn't stand a chance. The sheer amount of stupid would be the death of all his enemies.

I'm surpised no one has said Bronn. I know he isn't the greatest choice but if anything for his singing.

Many thanks to the good folks down at the Graphics Workshop for the sig.
