Keyboardist Billy Preston, a so-called "fifth Beatle" who also played with the Rolling Stones and enjoyed solo success in his own right, has died in Arizona after a long illness. He was 59.
Isn't it a pity that Billy Preston has perfected the art of dying? I can only question what is life and pray to my sweet lord before crying (wah-wah) as Johnny plugs me in out of the blue.

Okay, I'm done making a Pyrrhus post.

Ah, I have the Concert for Bangladesh DVD/CD, and I must say it's a shame to see him go. Well, like you so eloquently put it, "All Things Must Pass."

To think it was only yesterday I had bought All Things Must Pass.
Yeah I heard this on the radio today . I wasnt necessarily a fan of his stuff but thats only because I never really gave it chance. Last year I almost bought one of his albums...err cds'. I have read a lot about him over the years in different books on the Beatles though.

What do you recommend by him Octavian?

Oh, and I thought Charles Manson was the fifth Beatle j/k ...damn I feel old.

"And I have felt the sudden blow of a nameless wind's cold breath,
And watched the grisly pilgrims go that walk the roads of Death,
And I have seen black valleys gape, abysses in the gloom,
And I have fought the deathless Ape that guards the Doors of Doom."

I honestly don't know, I'm only familiar with his contributions to All Things Must Pass and the Let It Be album. The world truly did end on 6/6/06.

Seems he did some work with Ray Charles, so I guess you could look into him. I was never into jazz that much.

Billy Preston was an excellent man. I remember hearing about this early in the day yesterday, and was saddened. I had been following up on his health until a few months ago. You know, it is sad. Billy was a great Musician, someone who worked with the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and toured with Eric Clapton & George Harrison very often.

I remember him singing Isnt It a Pity at the Concert For George, he was excellent. It is scary. Harrison dies 21 years After Lennon, Preston 5 years after Harrison. Who is next? As for the fifth Beatle, that spot is undoubtly held by George Martin, literally followed their Manager, Brian Epstein.
