    Icon4 BSOD fatal error

    All of them.

The Hearts of Iron 3 install from last night more or less ripped my system apart.

    DELL XPS M1710
    Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0GHZ
    4GB DDR2 RAM (3.2GB allocated)
    256MB nVidia GeForce 7900 GS

    Errors present

    - BSOD on boot after the Windows loading
    - DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error present
    - nvlddmkm.sys problem (which means it's the driver - changed by the HoI 3 installation)

Safe Mode does not work, tried all 3 choices.

System Restore did not work, restored it from two days ago, didn't work.

I hit F12 and ran the basic hardware systems, everything passed, so no HDD or RAM problem.

Everything is unplugged from the USB, no antivirus errors, no RAM errors, BIOS runs well.

I can't boot from the CD - my DVD drive has had a hardware error almost from the start, I use an external drive.

Any suggestions for this? Thank you.

You should still be able to boot from the external one. Make sure its plugged in before booting and go to the boot menu, usually by pressing f12. If that doesn't work right away go into the BIOS and enable booting from USB as that might be disabled.

I changed the priority to CD/DVD Drive and USB, and still not working.

Reset your bios to defaults before trying to install windows.

And try another graphics card if you can.

I believe that's a laptop he has, so a different graphics card is not likely an option.

My video card is more or less fried, because of the noises one of the fans made I have blurred lines and other dots on the screen right from the startup.

I have to replace the video card (no idea how I will manage to find the same video card - hasn't been produced in 4 or 5 years).

Or place it in the oven and bake it.

    Warranty?

Sounds like it's buggered. Dont get a laptop for gaming...

On a sidenote tw's raised one of my gpus up to 90c once...I cant imagine the temps in a laptop...

Baking i think does work, you could try replacing the tim if you can get your hands on the card.

well a fairly decent gaming rig can be done for around £700...let us know if you want some parts listed.

unless of course you can fix your issue.

laptops arent my thing but you cant even get into bios without a gpu? or you can get into bios but then you have the artifacting...

try the baking if you want me to ask someone who has done it let me know..(have heard it mentioned over at guru people baking 8800 gtx etc).

I'm seriously considering baking my video card, it's the only option I have left.
