Default BSOD screwed one of my fans

Yes, I have no clue how in the world this happened.

I was playing Hearts of Iron III when I got a BSOD (first time in...three years of computer usage?) and when I booted it up again, the right fan of my laptop started screwing up and making noises.

I cleaned the laptop from the outside (DELL XPS M1710) but it still makes horrible noises when it goes into overdrive to cool down the system.

Any ideas, any help on this?

Replace the fan, no other option, with course of time bearings wear off and they make noise. I usually replace my fans every year as my PC runs 24/7, in your case it's 3 years after all.

Unfortunately it was the video card fan, which means I have to replace my video card

If you know a hardware expert or a guy who deals with these sort of things then you can take the G.card to him and he can then put graphite powder (not oil that's too thin) on the fan bearings. You can also do it not that hard but if you don't know how to handle graphite powder then stay away from it because it's conductive in nature and too much or if carelessly handled can lead to short circuit lol.
It might help in reducing the sound totally or partially for a few months when using machine oil and in case of Graphite powder the duration is usually more.
