    Default Updating

So I installed RTW then BI, and checked the version in game. For RTW it says 1.3 and in BI it says 1.4

So, I downloaded the 1.6 patch however when I execute it, it says that the RTW-BI.exe file cannot be found. I also thought that BI already came patched to 1.5? I was looking online for a solution and it looks like others have had this problem, but I failed to find a solution. I have windows 7 64 bit, but I do not believe thatīs what is making the problem.

Iīd very much like to install RS II...

Also I am using the battle pack version.

I've recommended it before, but will do so again. For: the ease of installation; ability to copy folders to make multiple clean installs for any mods; to allow standalone play; and shear convenience - buy a copy of RTW-Gold (RTW & BI already patched) from Amazon or similar for very little. You will never regret this decision.

I now have: RTW original with the lovely map; the Anthology with all 3; and 2 copies of Gold. One disk just lives in my Rome PC now.

Also, if you allowed the installer to install RTW\BI into the default directory (C:\Progam Files\etc, etc, etc,) this can cause issues in any version of Windows XP SP3, Vista, or Windows7. The Program Files folder is a 'protected' folder, and Windows behaves badly with older programs and games if they are installed in that folder.

We recommend installing RTW for any mod in a folder by itself called 'Rome_RTW' or whatever you like, but NOT in the 'Program Files' folder. I have heard that this can prevent the RTW Patch from installing correctly, because Windows 'virtualizes' part of the game's install, and doesn't like anything messing with the 'exe's'

I installed into a folder I created (SEGA). Itīs literally c\:Sega\RTW. So that cannot be the problem. I was reading a thread were somebody recommended editing the registry, some string files...but I cannot find any string files (I did however encounter various RTW files).

Hereīs what he recommended (said it worked for him):
the InstallPath one must read C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War (the folder where BI is installed)
you may need to set that for the EXEString too (i changed both at once to be sure)
(the exe one should end with RomeTW.exe)

Is there no way to simply download the 1.6 files???? Instead of in a .exe? So as to manually patch....

    EDIT:
Also as for purchasing gold, I would gladly....however I am currently living in central america and do not have the ability to order.

Iīm very anxious to play this mod...I was a big fan of the early version, but due to so much travelling havenīt had the opportunity to try 2.0

Ehhhh, I forgot about that little issue. The dang CA\RTW Patch requires that the path be the one that the CD was going to choose for you. Therefore:

    C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War

This patch installer is what I call a 'stupid' installer....it just looks for one directory, and the RomeTW.exe. If it can't 'see' it, it bombs out. (or, the BI.exe).

Try creating the directory 'C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War \' in the Program Files folder. Copy the 'data' folder and everything under it (IOW, everything in c\:Sega\RTW\)
into that directory you created. Then run the RTW\BI 1.5\1.6 updater. It should then be able to find the exe if you have the right directory structure.

After that, just leave this new install alone and don't use it. Copy the whole thing back into your c\:Sega\RTW\ folder and presto, it should be updated.

Unless you know what you're doing in the Registry, I wouldn't fool with it. If you are feeling brave, DO create a 'Restore Point' before ever messing with the Registry.
