Default Nicolas Sarkozy says France has too many foreigners!!

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has said there are too many foreigners in France and the system for integrating them is "working more and more badly".

In a TV debate, Mr Sarkozy defended his plan to cut the number of new arrivals in half if he is re-elected next month.

Mr Sarkozy is trailing in the opinion polls behind the Socialist candidate Francois Hollande.

He is also competing for conservative voters with the far-right National Front party led by Marine le Pen.

The president said while immigration could be a boon for France, it needed to be controlled more tightly through tougher qualification rules for residency.

Mr Sarkozy, whose father was a Hungarian immigrant, also said he wanted to restrict some benefit payments to immigrants who had been in the country for 10 years.

I think perhaps there's too many French in France. What could we do about this?

When 10% of your country population is foreigner, you'll say the same thing.

I knew there was something odd about that man ,that is why the relations between Romania and France aren't as good as they used to be.

Well Multiculturalism was declared dead. When one goes into France he is expected to assimilate and adapt the French culture.
A part of those emigrants don't assimilate and they cause problems.

We need to go to the core of the problem, this mass migration was allowed in Europe because the birth rates are going down.Migration is not the answer, some of the natives are more nationalists then others thus causing confilcts and the rise to expremist right wing parties and some imigrants don't assimilate but after 2 or 3 generations their own birth rates begin to match those of the adoptive country thus migration can only help for a short term.

France has a birth rate of 1.8 , more then ok,they should allow enough people to mentain their population,in essence stabilising the population.

Some countries need to stabilise their population, others must grow very slow and others could sustain an healthy population grow.

Poland,Hungary,Romania,Bulgaria and almost all Eastern Europe in essence can and it should have an healthy population growth because there is enough room and on the other side population growth can be used as a catalist for faster development.

A few developed countries could use a small population growth so that they develope their regions that are lagging behind.Italy ,Spain and Germany come into mind.Spain has more then 50% of their territory in need of territory,Italy has all southern Itlay that is underveloped.Germany still has East Germany to integrate from an economical point of view.I'm not talking about a big population growth when it comes those countries only a small one that will amplifiy their economic growth and that growth can be redirected into those regions.

We need to really think about it.Population stabilisation must be an aim for the EU and the European continent as a hole.

The average reader of The Sun knows of Poland, knows its 20th century history, and recognises shared cultural aspects. They don't know there are two different Congos unless an "African" from a culture they know absolutely nothing about tells them so, and from what they've seen on TV, the place is in eternal famine and civil war.

Wrong. In Germany, roughly 9% of the inhabitants don't have a German passport. And roughly a quarter of those actually have EU passports.

Sorry, my mistake. I read this article previously and somehow got it into my head it was 18% when it's only 9%.

Being able to comprehend some words doesn't mean that it's easy to actually learn to speak the language. Dutch is incredibly irregular, even worse than English.

In view of our divine essence, we need only liberty and work; in view of our mortal nature, we need for our direction a guide and a support. A government is not then, as a distinguished economist has said, a necessary ulcer; it is rather the beneficent motive power of all social organisation.

Yes so much is true, but we shouldn't take our chances. I'd say severly limit immigration, maybe a policy of only allowing well educated immigrants. Basicly only allowing people which will be of help to us, as right now we aren't helping ourselves with the immigration and it only causes problems on the long run.

Speaking Dutch basically involves coughing up phlegm at every vowel. It's likely the most guttural language in the world.

Thank god the Dutch are so good at English or I would've never survived in Amsterdam.
