Weird Wifi Problem
Greetings techies!
I'm having a bit of a problem with my home wifi. Now to start off, I sort of live out in the boonies, so my internet isn't exactly that reliable (or fast). However, I can do almost anything without any hiccups.
The problem is that whenever playing World of Tanks online my internet will lag for several minutes, and the only way I can fix it is by disabling and then enabling my wifi adapter. Sometimes it'll disconnect from the network and won't be able to reconnect until I close the game. I'm used to lag when playing online but this is just weird.
It seems to happen ONLY when playing WoT.
I've connected my laptop directly to the router, and the lag is gone. I've also replaced the wireless adapter in my desktop, but the problem is still there.
I'm starting to wonder if my router is the problem, but the weird thing is that lag only happens on my desktop and only while playing WoT.
Thanks in advance!

What kind of black magic is this? Have the great minds of the basement finally met their match?

Re: Weird Wifi Problem
First of all, if this issue truly is only on that game, than I would advise asking around in their tech support forums.
Secondly, wireless internet=crap. I've had so many problems for years with it that I've switched to wired internet using an ethernet cable. SO much better.

Re: Weird Wifi Problem
Thanks for the answer. Although the position of our house as well as the position of the router and PC wouldn't allow me to connect my PC via wire.
One final bump in desperation.

Re: Weird Wifi Problem
Does your family own the house or is it a rental?
Since we own the house, I rewired the phone line to the wall behind the computer myself. I do not advise this in a rental.

Re: Weird Wifi Problem
My family owns the house.
The problem is, our wireless antenna is on the top floor of our house, and the PC is in the basement. So we would have to wire through two floors in order to get the desktop hooked up. And even then, it would only remove the router from the equation, as our ISP is all wireless. And wired internet (besides dialup ...blegh...) doesn't exist out where we live.

30 to 40 feet cat. 5e, yeah, it could be a chore. It would be the way to minimize the interference in the house, though.
This would ask the next question, is the interference in the house or someplace between you and the transmitter assuming they are not using satellite?

Re: Weird Wifi Problem
Honestly I'm not sure. There was an issue of a metal pipe interfering a little of a year ago, but that was fixed.
The weird thing is, this type of lag (where I have to reset my Wifi adapter) only happens when playing WoT, and not with other games, or while surfing the web.

Re: Weird Wifi Problem
It could be WoT servers, then, instead of your setup.

Re: Weird Wifi Problem
Yeah that's what I've been thinking. It's not game-breaking however, it's just extremely annoying.
Thanks for the help though.

Re: Weird Wifi Problem
I wish I could be more help. Good luck finding a better solution.
