    Default Iceland's Loch Ness monster

This is a month old information, but I haven't seen a thread for it so I opened one

Is this Iceland's Loch Ness monster? Giant 'serpent-like sea creature' caught on camera swimming in glacial river

There's something undoubtedly fishy about this footage of a 'serpent-like' sea creature gliding through the waters of an Icelandic river.
The video, captured last week by Hjörtur Kjerúlf, shows a mysterious creature swimming through the cold water of the glacial river Jökulsá í Fljótsdal, in east Iceland.
And in just over a week, it has already become a monster hit on the internet....Read more

I agree with you... but it's a pretty interesting video... I think that a lot of the believers in "lake monsters" will use it as "proof", and it will "fuel" the local Icelandic legends about Lagarfljót Worm...

Besides, even it is something we don't know (which there are plenty in deep sea now), it does not matter to me besides how it tastes - whale steak or monster steak, which one is better?

As far as videos of "monsters", this one isn't all that bad.

My god, did any of you ever play Skyrim? First we have chaos among men (economic crisis), then the giant dragon/snake will ensurp the earth in fire and doom. The only thing missing from that video is a nerd clad in Dragonborn armor slaying the dragon!

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Judging from how clearly segmented its tail is, that's not a living creature.

Eh the fact that whatever it is would need more of its kind to mate so therefore the odds of seeing one of them would be greater. Since we have not seen any other ones then I am leaning toward hoax or misrepresentation. Maybe its a zoom in shot of a snake? But I dont think snakes are in cold environments, so if thats the case than how could this creature exist if there are not snakes capable of living in the cold?

Although we don't know of any snake species that can live in a cold environment in nowadays, dinosaurs were most likely warm-blooded or had a metabolism with which they could live in cold places...So that could be the case with this creature (if it exists)...

Yeah this is definitely less convincing than my colorful Bigfoot beliefs (at least there are large extant populations of primates in the Americas). Snakes don't move like that.

Sea Dragons were probably sharks or something. I'm guessing the legendary Norse Sea Serpents were Greenland Sharks. Big, up to 7 meters. Vaguely snakelike. Ugly. Nasty bite. Poisonous flesh. Used to eat Inuit fishermen. Probably the man we're looking for.

Random robotic looking snake-thing on an island in a lake.

As the book of natural history's chapter concerning Icelandic snakes wisely surmised: "There are no snakes in Iceland."

The only thing I could think of would be an oarfish or a giant eel of some kind that we don't know of, but it doesn't really look like one of those.

Most likely a hoax, and a fairly unconvincing one at that.

Well, the Loch Ness myth was proven to be a hoax and there was never any sea monsters there in that lake. As for this one, am sure there is a logical explanation for this, some kind of fisk or number of fishes or a wave pattern.
