Yes, go on Amazon. Blackwell's Online is also good, and the Hellenic Bookservice isn't bad either.

Yes, it is good. It's worth studying it to consider what the overall meaning of the poem is (it's not just about a bunch of guys having very long and very boring battles). But Virgil's Aeneid is better.

Achilles is killed by a poison arrow shot by Paris. It hits him in the heel, the only part of his body that he is vulnerable.

This happens BEFORE the horse is built.

it is correct the real Iliad written by the Homer ended with the tragic death of Hektor. it was Shakespeare and other writers who added the later parts to the story (death of Achilles, victory of Greeks and basically everything after the death of Hektor).

Here is a nice online overview. Includes information from both the Illiad and Odyssey.

there is a book called " Troy, Homer's Iliad Retold " by David Boyle and Viv Croot. Its a great book its basically the iliad in story form. Reading the real Iliad book is kind of hard to understand in my opinon. This book still has quotes of the Iliad, and even gives you little facts on the side of who the characters are, the map, etc.

The whole story of the Fall of Troy, and the events leading up to it, comes not only from the Iliad and the Odyssey (background stuff in the story), but from playwrights like Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides.
Encyclopaedia Mythica is always a good website to check, or Answers.com

i would say Fagles is the best translation. Or you could be a geek, like me, and learn ancient greek and translate it yourself
