Default Lioness kills man who invoked God

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060605/...BhBHNlYwM5NjQ-
KIEV (Reuters) - A man shouting that God would keep him safe was mauled to death by a lioness in Kiev zoo after he crept into the animal's enclosure, a zoo official said on Monday.

"The man shouted 'God will save me, if he exists', lowered himself by a rope into the enclosure, took his shoes off and went up to the lions," the official said.

"A lioness went straight for him, knocked him down and severed his carotid artery."
    Needless to say...

At first I figured this was just bull, because in browsing 4chan I have often seen links to yahoo and other reliable news sources telling how children praying to a metal cross in mexico were hit by lightning, and other such things which seemed too plentiful to be real.

Though in this case, the man must have been suicidal.

When I was a kid, some moron here jumped into the brown bear exhibit at the San Diego Zoo. He said that the bears wanted to hang out and chill with him. He got mauled, but the handlers pulled him out before he could remove himself from the gene pool.

Really? He sounded quite sure of his beliefs from the article, he probably thought that he was actually safe.

I don't view this as evidence against god though, just evidence that we shouldn't depend on him.

Haha what a moron. I wonder if God was laughing when he was being ripped apart by the lions.

He must have forgot the verse that says "Thou shall not test God"

Apparently that guy didn't have much logical reasoning. God doesn't work like that.

Obviously... he'd have to believe in a god to invoke it.

Nah. God isn't going to prevent someone from killing themselves. The whole point is for humans to use their reason and judgment in addition to faith.

A person knows very well that by jumping in a lion's cage he could get killed. It's in the full power of the invididual to decide whether or not he will commit suicide. That's why God says, "Don't commit suicide".

I tend to believe that God helps people in cases where the invidual is powerless. Example include various forms of accidents. That's why you often see cases where someone gets savagely attacked by a mountain lion and yet lives to tell about it.

I have a question that I've been mulling on for quite some time: why the hell do we attempt to rescue these people? If we rescue them, they're just gonna pass on their genes of stupidity. Since stupid people tend to have more kids than they can support, that means there'll be many more stupid people in the world. If a guy decides to jump into a bear pit, why don't we just leave him there?

well, it upsets the animals and makes them very difficult to manage for quite a long time after. After all, they're not attacking because they are hungry, they are attacking because someone has invaded their private space (usually shouting and yelling) and they are frightened.

Plus it's not a great idea if the animals learn that humans (ie. the keepers) are really fairly easy to kill. They already assosciate humans with food (their food smells of humans) and that is dangerous enough.

Is it now? That's funny, I thought they survived because they weren't dealt any lethal blows (like, say, severing the carotid artery in their necks). There are also many cases where He doesn't help the powerless victims. For what reason? I don't know.

Someone mentioned that this guy was an atheist. An atheist would be convinced that he/she would die. This sounds more like some guy who was having doubts about his religion.

Why does everybody think he's crazy. If anything, he is the most dedicated Atheist in the world, going to incredible lengths to prove his point....
Given any number of random, even contradictory metaphysical postulates, a justification, however absurd, can be logically developed.
