After reading the limited amount of information given in the various reports I can find of Dr. Ellen Aitken's "discovery" I would say that the evidence was very tenuous and unreliable. It most certianly is not conclusive.

Firstly, there is the matter of the date :

The papyrus in the spotlight is believed to be from about 300 A.D.

According to early tradition, the writing of this book took place near the very end of Domitian's reign, around the AD 95 or 96. Others contend for an earlier date, AD 68 or 69, in the reign of Nero or shortly thereafter. Those who are in favour of the later date appeal to the external testimony of the Christian father Irenaeus (d. AD 185), who received information relative to this book from those who had seen John face to face. He says that the Apocalypse "was seen no very long time since, but almost in our day, towards the end of Domitian's reign" (A.H. 5.30.3), who according to Eusebius had started the persecution referred to in the book. However, recent scholars dispute that the book is situated in a time of ongoing persecution and have also doubted the reality of a large-scale Domitian persecution, as there is no reference to such a persecution before Eusebius.

The latter date is also supported by writers such as Jerome; where as Epiphanius suggested a time during the reign of Claudius.

Either way, most would agree that the date was no later 100 AD.

(from what I have read in the past and researched now; if anybody knows of any conflicting evidence suggesting a much later date, please say so :original: )

This is a large disparity of date between the time or writing of the book itself.

She, herslef, admits that there is a large potential for copying errors or purposeful changes :

Secondly,would be making a huge mistake in bibliographic textual analysis to suggest that a date is probably correct just because of the finding of one individual text among hundreds.

In conclusion, I would say that the evidence provided from that report should not cause anybody to come to a conclusion about the real number in the original text.
