The Army of Julius Caesar

Hello
I am writing a book of the history of a legionnaire in the wars of Julius Caesar and Augustus Caesar. I would be grateful if you could give me information on how the Roman army functioned in the wars in Gaul and Roman Civil War II. What the soldiers wore? How long did they training? How was the helmet, armor, clothes of the Romans and the Gauls? Any information helps

I remember reading somwhere that it took 6 months of hard training to turn a raw recruit into a legionary who knows all the commands and manouvres and all his tasks...

Look for the writer Adrian Goldsworthy. He's written quite a few books on ancient History, containing a few books on the Roman army and a biography of Julius Caesar. They're not expensive (I bought them for €10 each) so that might help you out.

I have only read Caesar, Carthage and The fall of the West, but I like his style. My point is: I don't know how good the books about the army are but I'm sure I'll give them a try later too!
