    Default Cav is beastly

So here is the scenario: I have started a new VH/M Makedonia campaign. So pella is under attack by epis and i use the two southern half stacks of levys to take Athens. One turn later, KH besieges korinthos with just a general in it. So i retrain some levy's and relieve the city ( small attackking force) next turn they resiege with a half stack with 2 spartan generals. total they have 500 inf and missiles, 120 of which are spartans. I have 375 levy's and 125 cav ( 3 general units 1 thessellian heavy) so i set my defence and they scale my walls with ladders. I destroy all of their units except 80 spartans but all of my inf and miss are dead so i split my cav in 2 and wait for them to come down off my walls. They charge the stronger force on the right and i send my left most force charging at their rear. 12 horses and 80 spartans later i win the battle.
best day ever considering i would have lost my basileus and the elect if i had lost!

To be fair, cav is far better in the Vanilla version of this game. The general cav units however, remain a different story. Those guys do not die.

Yeah, I think generally cav are well balanced because they have huge upkeep costs relative to most infantry. General cavalry can be very annoying and tough and should be handled accordingly.

of course, cavalry are often the cream of nobilities, men who born only to fight and train and no backbone breaking works to do on almost daily basis.

EB system to portaying the cavalry is among the best

I like the system, it halts the player from forming a heavy-cavalry spam, but it gives crucial advantage to an army with cavalry, even if it is medium-level. In vanilla RTW, cavalry which aren't heavy are pure trash. I tend to bring with my armies at least one cav unity, general or recruited.

You need to make proper use of your cavalry. Here's a guide for using cavalry in EB: http://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?103172

Sauromatae BG are better though. They're like tanks.

Meh, Somatophylakes Strategou (Hellenistic) look the best, have better stamina, speed and hit almost as hard as the Cata BGs, and don't need reforms.

Saka BG are the best. My attack stack was for the first 100 turns of my Saka campaign formed of mainly FM's, and they could slaughter any infantry and cavalry unit the Pahlavi, Baktrians and AS threw at me with a frontal attack, with the expection of phalanxes.
