    Default Linguistics

I only whanted to know if anyone else here like Linguistics? And what about it you like

I mostly like language history, but also to compare languages.
I kinda like more gramatics of Latin and Germanic languages (wich i can understand).
Dialekt differences localy is also very interesting.

Would this be the right sub forum for linguistic questions?

I have a degree in English linguistics, but it's such a wide field I'm not sure what my favourite aspect of it was. I enjoyed discourse analysis a lot, because there is so much more to interaction that just the meaning of the words themselves - there's the whole pragmatics dimension with face, how turn-taking is (or isn't) managed in the discourse, speech acts etc. I also find phonology very interesting, and particularly like being able to use the IPA as it's such a useful tool.

I always liked linguistics but it's far away from my current field of study, so I don't get to study it that much. Germanic languages are interesting to study because of the variations from each germanic language to another. Old English is fun to look at.

I plan to be going into college for a Linguistics major, with a political science minor and other classes in a bid to get a diplomatic/embassy job. I love languages, it's probably the one thing I'm good at. If only my school would offer something other than Spanish so I could expand on my knowledge.
