    Hi everyone. I've asked the same question in the Medieval 2 forums, but I think my chances are better here. It is semi TATW related.

    To my knowledge the TATW team are the only modders so far making use of custom settlements.

    The thing is I'm playing vanilla and other mods from time to time and my computer lags when playing sieges in huge cities/Citadels. This is not a texture problem, it is simply that the city is too big. I have however never had this problem in TATW since most cities are only big, not huge. I only had the problem with Osgiliath in old 2.0 version. Now, with the new custom made cities I never run into problems, thanks to that they are smaller than the generic vanilla ones.

    Quite simply, I would like to ask the team, or anyone else who might know how to reduce city and citadel sizes in vanilla, since you've managed to manipulate them in this mod? Remember it's the size that's the problem - the range of the wall and the amount of buildings within, not the textures.

    Did u try lowering detail/units size?

    Yes Nemesis. I can play battles with 5000+ units on the field with high settings without lag. Everything on low in cities and still the same lag. I think there is something about the buildings that really eats my computer. I've really tried all the settings. Only thing left for me to do is mod and make the cities smaller.

    You can make cities never to grow huge...

    Have you tried to turn shadows off? Shadows are usually the source of a lot of lag

    Yes I could do that in "desc.buildings" I guess, but would miss out on all the top tier units if not putting a lot of work into it. But there must be some formula in the data folder that simply generates the size of the city when entering battle mode regarding to the population in it.

    just found descr_cultures.txt in DATA folder.

    large_city
    {
    normal data/models_strat/residences/southern_european_large_city.CAS, settlement_eastern_level_5
    card data/ui/southern_european/cities/graeco-roman_large_city.tga

    Maybe just change to "graeco-roman_city.tga" ? Or are the tga only the icon for the city and not the city itself? Is it the CAS file maybe?

    Huge cities/Citadels are not included in the recruitment system.That means that everything is available to large cities/fortresses.
    I dont know if it is even possible reducing those sizes without doing a huge amount of work but maybe u should try the workshop forum.hf

    How do the TATW team make an orc city have wooden palisade instead of stone walls? Bah, I shall try the workshop forum then. Thanks.
