Ive recently read nearly all the Richard Sharpe books and when I read them I thought they were some of the best books ever written, I mean I like read them in 2-3 days for each book.
Recently I haven've had time to get hte next ones so I continued reading some of the Jack Aubrey books (I had read 1 and 2) and I started reading HMS Surprise. It was such a complete change (for the Better) from the Sharpes books. The language, the dialouge, the action, the charachters, seemed so much more diverese, so much more colorful than those of the Sharpe books.
The Characters weren't all good and band, black and white, they were a lot more realistic. The dialouge was possibly the most noticable change, not only did Patrick O'brien have the characters talk in the very colorful language of the era but he also wrote in the same language too. He captured almost every aspect of society via how he expressed small talk and the thoughts of the characters.
I liked the Shape's books a lot but I think the Aubrey books are a lot better.
