JERUSALEM — Israeli defense officials say state-run Israel Aerospace Industries will sell $1.6 billion in drones and anti-aircraft and missile defense systems to Azerbaijan.

The deal will bring sophisticated Israeli technology to the doorstep of archenemy Iran. Tensions between Iran and Azerbaijan have been rising because of close Azeri ties with Israel.

Nothing really to react to. Israel-Azerbaijan military cooperation has been going on for a long time. Our military cooperation has been mainly with Russia and they have some advanced arms as well.

Given the high tensions with Azerbaijan, Iran is backing Armenia, though trying to do it under a cover. With Russia a firm ally of Armenia, Azerbaijan is basically surrounded.

The Azerbaijan-Israel relationship is your typical oil for weapons relationship. Though that has been advanced with intelligence cooperation.

Its not going to bother Armenia as Armenia has a very small air force so its basically for Iran.

Armenia has one of the best, if not the best anti-air defense in the region, as attested by the Russians, who have been basically helping Armenia upgrade its weapons.

It's basically Russia who is supplying Armenia with weapons. They are the ones who supplied us with the S300 surface to air missile systems for free, while azeri's paid out of there asses for it. We are a member of the CSTO and receive discounted weapons and incase of renewed war Russia and the CSTO will aid Armenia.

And the Russian-Armenian alliance is not one based on some resource exchange. There's a genuine historic trust/friendship between Russians and Armenians, while I can't say the same for Azerbaijan and Israel whose relations is basically one of convenience.
