Just Got Robbed By Replay

I assembled the most cost effective English army that I could muster, without using the same unit more than 4 times and with only 2 units of Longbowmen. I then gave the CPU the strongest army I could think of giving them, without giving them the same unit more than 4 times.

So the stage was set. Cheap + Brains vs. Braun + AI. I fought the CPU on Very Hard and I destroyed them! I still had 3 reserve units completely intact, which I sent forth valiantly into the battle to obliterate their frontline. After the CPU broke and started running away, I chased them down with my cavalry and slaughtered them all. It was heralded as "Our most heroic victory!"

I felt proud. So proud in fact, that I scrambled to watch the replay as fast as I could. After admiring my opening moves for a minute or so I watched as my army slowly started making some silly mistakes that I don't remember making. After about 5 minutes I watched as my brave reserves decided to cower when I sent them to clean up the French frontline. All I could think was "WTF!?" I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Before I knew it, my entire army was broken and routing. The "Heroic Victory" I had earned was replaced with a "Crushing Defeat".

This is unfortunately a known issue. The program simply records the approximate clicks and pays back the replay based on that. If you are lucky, you can actually have various replays of the same battle, although those would not likely give back the tactical sophistication of the player (in other words, you would still lose).

I learned this the hard way, thorough my epic final battle in my first AAR...

I haven't seen this happen so much on vanilla, but it has almost been expected for me when I use mods... I hate it too!

Hate it when this happens.

In a custom battle, with 5 units of border horse i took out an entire half stack of norse infantry.
In the replay, my light cav hammered, but never retreated. You can guess the outcome...

Its not just on TW games too. This happened on WAR3 as well.

This sounds like a portal into an alternate universe?

I too have never heard of this problem. If the replays are based on clicks than it's almost not even a replay, if you think about it. It's more a reenactment in that case, that has the ability to change the outcome.

I always had the same, have never seen a replay going the ''normal'' way, only once when I created the Battle of Stirling Bridge for myself. Apart from that one I tried it like 5- 10 times and everytime I had the same issue with my army getting crushed every time although I actually won.
Since then I never tried replays again on MTW 2.
