Trade in BC
Just wondering, when playing with Oman and Armenia, merchants hardly make any money compared to other factions. Does anyone know where these nations can get good profit from their merchants?

Re: Trade in BC
Merchant revenue depends on the distance between your capital and the trade-good in question, as well as on the inherent value of the trade-good. (And on a bunch of other factors.)
So either find valuable trade-goods that aren't found near your capital, or (a bit of a gamey solution) move your capital somewhere farther from the things you want to trade.

Send your merchants to the gold in Kerman (the first seljuks of Iraq city) and the golds in Persia. Also In Ethopia there is Ivory (Cellula the little piece of Africa that is just southeast of Arabia has 2) they will net 2000K per turn on a maxed out merchant. This is for Oman... Also silk isn't bad...

Re: Trade in BC
As Oman, I find that the wheat in the regions of Yemen makes decent money and faces relatively little competition in the early game. Calula, which Iratern mentioned, is excellent. Not only is the income high, but as far as I have seen, the AI does not send merchants there.
Do Oman and Armenia really operate at a special disadvantage with regard to merchants? I haven't played much as any faction besides Oman... I figured that the other factions had better merchants because they start with more market levels and perhaps get an unnatural AI advantage (like the apparent growth bonuses).

Nope- Oman just has low value resources close to starting Capitol but with a little exploring there are plenty of good resources available.

Re: Trade in BC
One of the most profitable resources to trade for any faction are located in the horn of Africa. There a couple of ivory sources there that make and absolute fortune even for average merchants.
