This goes for both Napoleon and Empire total war. When I run the game it goes to the first page you ever see when you run it showing the title screen pretty much. But thats as far as it goes then freezes. It wierdly managed to run without freezing once on Empire Total War but that was the only time. Medieval ii Rome total war and Roma Surrectum will work but they wont. Could someone tell me what to do please!

There was a bug of that description that most of us had, but a week ago. Try running the game with Steam in offline mode, see how that works.

Yup, wait a bit, give it a couple of days. Try what Carolus said, run in offline mode. Do you have latest patches? Check for viruses & malware? When did this problem happen?

Xenosety, any luck on your side? I can't get the same two games started since Friday and I'm pretty sure there was a small Steam Client Update when the problem started. Offline mode doesn't help at all. Shogun is no problem. In my case, I don't even get to any screen - NTW tells me it had to close due to an error right when it starts up and ETW just dies without a message and goes back to desktop.

When the problem first occurred a while ago, I didn't fix it by starting Steam offline, but by enabling the Steam beta Client; try that.

Participating in a beta program through steam settings, right? Thanks but I tried that - Skyrim beta is the only thing available at the moment. Didn't make a difference unfortunately.

Ok i got NTW running again: What seems to have done it was removing the folder with all the scripts, savegames etc. in "The Creative Assembly" and creating a copy of my main folder and have steam verify the game cache. Then i copied my scripts and savegames into the new assembly folder. In the main folder i had edited boot.pack and media.pack so steam replaced those. It also replaced sound.pack for some reason. I re-did the edits of main and boot directly in the new packs so now i'm basically where i left off - it all works. No idea what had happened but it must have been steam-related.

Files can get corrupted over time. Good reason for backups of modifications. Glad to hear you're back up and running. Enjoy the game.
