I currently have RTW and I was wondering if it would be worthwhile for me to get MTWII? I've played it at a friends house and the horses seemed to be going in slow motion, might of been the graphic settings but anyway was just wondering if it would be worth my time?

Medieval animation looks slower compared to Rome because itīs more detailed - you get used to it.
I myself started out with Rome for several years, and then moved on completely to Medieval. I can hardly even play Rome for short periods of time anymore.
So Iīd say itīs definitely worth your while - Medieval II is among the top 3 of Total War games, and provides a different feel than Rome and itīs other predecessors.

Totally worth it, the game is a huge step forward since RTW, better graphics (stunning) better gameplay, better balance...

I'm rather new to the game but I'm liking Medieval. I got Rome and Medieval ii at the same time so I play both simultaniously. The graphics are better but than rome but you can improve Rome's graphics with mods. But I recommend getting it just for the more factions and different recruitment, starting areas and you get to play in Scotland

Thanks, haven't decided yet but may get a demo and try it for a while.

Put it this way; I got M2:TW in the steam 2010 crimbo sale for Ģ2.50 and I have played about 700+ hours on a slightly old, prone to crashing PC.

The best Ģ2.50 I ever spent!

Well I may have to see what I am able to do later.
Edit: If I do get it what would be the easiest faction to do a first campaign with when playing around E/E or M/M diffuculty?

If you know RTW well don't bother with Easy settings, and if you usually win your Rome battles, I recommend you play your battles at least on Hard settings - they are not much harder than Medium and the AI won't try to outflank you if you play on Medium or Easy.

I've never played RTW since I started playing MTW2 - even though I prefer the ancient period, the graphics and game play in MTW2 are sooo much better I don't think I'll be playing RTW until a new version is made. If you get the demo you may get the historical battle with the Aztecs, be shure to try it - you will be blown away by what you see.

I'd recommend buying MTW, too, it's quite cheap now anyway so you can't do much wrong. As people already said, it has better graphics and gameplay and furthermore a lot of unique inventions like the crusades/jihads, really strong emerging factions (Mongols & Timurids) , the Pope and the Papal States itself, Princesses, Merchants and so on.
On playing the demo I have to say I never really liked it, though, back then I also got the demo first and had no high opinion of MTW then, but the full game is much better.

On cavalry charges: Yes they are a bit slow and strange on MTW, but there a worse bugs in RTW- I only say diplomacy If an AI faction has a decent reputation in the campaign, it will be loyal to an alliance and never betray you like they always did on Rome.

You have to get it! If you liked Rome, you have to get Medieval 2! I love Rome and Medieval 2. Medieval 2 has better graphics, what I think of has a better campaign (If you play on very hard, otherwise it's too easy), it has Crusades/Jihads, princesses, merchants, priests, I think it has better diplomacy, you can get missions for any faction, not just the Romans like in Rome, but I like the battles better in Rome. In medieval 2, I auto-resolve a lot of the battles, in Rome I enjoy fighting most of my battles. But if you like Medieval 2 and Rome, don't buy Empire (waste of my money!). I hate having all musket units, because of all of the muskets it lost its the "Total War" feel to the game. Also, cavalry are ineffective in that game if you do not know how to use them. Because reload time is sped up, instead of taking the soldiers two minutes to reload, it takes them ten seconds! By that time 90% of your charging cavalry(a little bit of an exaggeration) are dead., which takes a lot of momentum out of your charge. Also, battles move very very very slowly. If you like playing online, you and your opponet will sit there for an hour(another small exaggeration) bombarding each other with cannon and musket fire until one of you run out of ammo! I guess I am use to the traditional, face-paced, hand-to-hand combat battles. So buy Medieval 2!

Am I the only one who actually liked ETW too? It is different but definately fun, much more tactics involved too. In M2TW you just take some elite units, godmode on and you've won.

Vanilla M2TW is much better then vanilla RTW, you will be shocked by the graphic change and if you go back to RTW you'll think "Why did I ever play this".
There are also some great mods that are worth buying the game for.
There also are some neat features like jihads/crusades and some nice agents
The variety in factions and units is great so there's something for everyone

    Hope it helped

This post will make Ishan very happy

    Nope

M2TW is one of the best strategy games ever made, and it's like Ģ5 on steam (I dunno what it is in $ though)

Ignore the scare stories of steam being useless for mods - this solves all problems in that department.

Yes, you should get it. It needs a bit more horsepower than RTW, but it is worth it. Check out some of the after action reports to see what can be done with it. It has also been modded into some insanely great games with dozens of new factions, like Stainless Steel, Broken Crescent or DLV, not to mention TATW, the most ambitious Lord of the Rings mod ever made.

Get it. It's really cheap now, has tons of stunning mods ( Stainless Steel, Third Age, Westeros TW , 30 years war ) .

You can easly sink like 400+ hours on this game and not even scrap the surface.

Short answer ---> If you liked RTW, then: Yes. Get M2TW. England is an excellent faction with which to start.

Longer answer ---> RTW vanilla has (IMO) slightly better gameplay than M2TW. However, M2TW adds some really neat elements (like merchants, and the Pope) -AND- lots of eye candy. The art and music are excellent; and most of the assassination and spying videos are hilarious. Also, M2TW vanilla is a bit more challenging: H/H in M2TW is about like VH/VH in RTW.

Oh. Don't forget that Kingoms expansion is like a whole 2nd game; and Americas is like a whole third game. I spent maybe 300 hours in M2TW, 100+ in Kingdoms, and then something like 600 in Americas. (I'd be back in Kingdoms, if I hadn't broke down and gotten ETW ~2 months ago.)
