Use of Latin soldiers
Hello Community of dedicated RTW fans.
After a long break I've fallen back in and started playing SQPR again
I noticed in the 8.0 version you can now get Latin Hastati and Principes, so I was wondering how I should use these most historically correct. Did they comprise of legions of their own, or did they fill out the ranks of depleted legions? If possible I would like to know both the historical data and how you prefer to use them.
And the same question actually goes for the Gallic Auxillia, though I imagine that their purpose is primarily to fill out thinning ranks.

Re: Use of Latin soldiers
Well the historical way is what you make it, given that we can just merely truly guess what happened 2400 years ago. But on the srs note - Id let them form legions, be it allied / client state, not fully Roman citizens. Or have them fill ranks of depleting legions after combat. Gallic auxilia same, either form pure Alae support legions that follow up main force, use them for garrisons or mix them to your main force.

Re: Use of Latin soldiers
Thank you for the quick reply.
I have an additional question while I'm at it. I read that according to house rules, you should only retrain your legions every five years. Does this apply for pre-reform legions as well? Because to be honest I can hardly imagine that the significantly weaker pre-marian legions can have any survivors after 10 whole turns.

Re: Use of Latin soldiers
First to say - this game is designed to be played with a 4TPU + Garrison script, which you need to activate everytime.
Thus, its 20, not 10 turns for the legion to survive.
If you ask me, I did re-fit the pre-marian troops to make the legion survive. Sometimes, even that is not enough thou. Republican and Imperial legions with the sword auxilia fill-in have less trouble surviving, but the pre-marians..well
