I'm current playing Das Heilige Römische Reich and I wish to fiddle with a factions naming conventions including the characters which the faction begins with at start up.
The two main aspects of my modding this mod is to both cut down on the superfluous names given to characters as well as narrow down their by-names.
In the game Swabia begins with you controlling two families: The Hohenstafens and the Hapsburgs. I wish to do away with the majority of the German given names which weren't used by these dynasties like Benno, Ekkehard and Udo and only have the list focus on historical names like Friedrich, Albert and Heinrich.
As well I want to make a twist where I forge a Teutonic Order state in the Baltic with the Hohenzollerns in control. To do this I want to eliminate all surnames from Swabia's list except for "von Habsburg", "von Staufen", and "von Hohenzollern" so that if a Staufen or Hapsburg has a daughter that doesn't become a princess the only candidate for marriage to her will be a Zollern.
Since Hohenzollern was lacking from the list of descr_names_lookup.txt I added it as I find just "von Zollern" to be an annoying version of the name.
Added together that there are names belonging to pre-existing units both given and surnames that no longer belong to Swabia, I changed all surnames that weren't Staufen or Habsburg to Habsburg and renamed all characters who fit outside my naming conventions to other names, particularly the women so I won't have a future Werner pop up on my list.
So in descr_strat.txt things went from:
As an example, to:character_record Friedrichb von Staufen, male, age 70, dead 27, never_a_leader
character_record Hildegard von Egisheim, female, age 70, dead 1, never_a_leader
character_record Reginlind von Staufen, female, age 52, alive, never_a_leader
character_record Hilla von Pfirt, female, age 16, alive, never_a_leader
character_record Judenta von Ortenburg, female, age 30, alive, never_a_leader
character_record Ulrich von Habsburg, male, age 10, alive, never_a_leader
character_record Agatha von Strassburg, female, age 30, dead 1, never_a_leader
relative Otto von Strassburg, Agatha von Strassburg, end
relative Werner von Habsburg, Reginlind von Staufen, Ottoa von Habsburg, Albrecht von Habsburg, end
relative Friedrichb von Staufen, Hildegard von Egisheim, Reginlind von Staufen, Friedrich von Staufen, Otto von Strassburg, end
relative Ottoa von Habsburg, Hilla von Pfirt, end
relative Albrecht von Habsburg, Judenta von Ortenburg, Ulrich von Habsburg, end
Now the issue is, I CTD every time I try to start a name game with these changes.character_record Friedrichb von Staufen, male, age 70, dead 27, never_a_leader
character_record Margareta von Habsburg, female, age 70, dead 1, never_a_leader
character_record Beatrix von Staufen, female, age 52, alive, never_a_leader
character_record Katharina von Habsburg, female, age 16, alive, never_a_leader
character_record Kunigunde von Habsburg, female, age 30, alive, never_a_leader
character_record Ulrich von Habsburg, male, age 10, alive, never_a_leader
character_record Agnes von Staufen, female, age 30, dead 1, never_a_leader
relative Otto von Staufen, Agnes von Staufen, end
relative Rudolf von Habsburg, Beatrix von Staufen, Ottoa von Habsburg, Albrecht von Habsburg, end
relative Friedrichb von Staufen, Margareta von Habsburg, Beatrix von Staufen, Friedrich von Staufen, Otto von Staufen, end
relative Ottoa von Habsburg, Katharina von Habsburg, end
relative Albrecht von Habsburg, Kunigunde von Habsburg, Ulrich von Habsburg, end
I do not care that every spy, assassin, etc I make will be "____ von Hohenzollern", etc and the like as I don't pay attention to their naming, I only care about the factions dynastic characters names.
The only time I do actually care about agent names is when I notice a birth triggered during a turn that doesn't have a name I want for my faction leader or is a Habsburg name being given to a Hohenstuafen like Leopold or a Hohenzollern name like Wilhelm being given to a Habsgurg and vice versa. With that I'll reload to the turn before and then go into my settlements and have them recruit a certain amount of free priests, merchant, etc, until they eat up enough names on the list for my new character to get one that I desire. All the extra units are then dumped onto a merc boat, then sent out to suicide against enemy fleets to dispose of them and allow me to use the free slots come the next birth.
This is really why I'm trimming the name list since, as it is, the list of undesirable names vastly outnumbers the appropriate ones and it's hard to get my future leader to be a Friedrich von Staufen or an Albert von Habsburg when they keep turning into Wolfgang's or Poppo's.
What am I missing and how can I fix this CTD?
