Why does it no longer have Rome as a required region? At least for the Byzantines? I thought it used to be but it no longer is! At least I don't see it! Anyone know why?

I think victory conditions for ERE could be simply defensive... hold 30 regions for 100 turns including Balkans, Greece, and eastern Anatolia.
HRE is more difficult to say... probably to defeat Hungary and Genoa, control 30 regions for 100 turns, and control N Italy and central Germany.

Honestly, I'd like to see something like that for all factions Ishon. Instead of take this and take this, just take 50...or whatever. That way you can expand however you want, or immigrate to new lands, and not have the game tell you you're doing it wrong.![]()

For some factions it makes sense... IE:
England- defeat Scotland and France, hold 40 regions for 50 turns.
Scotland- defeat England, hold 20 regions for 100 turns.
France- defeat England and Genoa, hold Flanders, Burgundy, Toulouse for 100 turns.
Aragon- defeat Sicily, hold 30 regions for 80 turns.
Moors- defeat Portugal, Aragon, Castile, Sicily- hold 50 regions.
Other ones could be more general...
Crusader States could also be defensive like ERE and probably Lithuania- hold Jerusalem 100 turns, hold 30 regions. (could be quite hard to never lose Jerusalem to Jihad or the 100 turn count starts over)
Lithuania- Hold Kaunas 100 turns, hold Baltic regions 50 turns.
Cumans- defeat Kieven Rus, hold steppe regions 100 turns.
Kieven Rus- Defeat Novgorod, Cumans, hold 30 regions 80 turns.
Portugal- hold 30 regions including Lisbon for 80 turns
Castile- hold 40 regions including all over Iberia except Portugal (list by region) for 100 turns.
Some victory conditions might make player more likely to do some different campaigns as well. For example your empire is doing just fine as France but then you get a message on turn 130 that ERE is about to win... suddenly making a raid into Greece to reset ERE victory conditions seems attractive. It would help game be a bit more dynamic without being totally controlling the shape to win every time.

I don't think I've played one game with the victory conditions in mind. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I actually read the conditions.
I did the same thing most of the time until I played CoW. There I paid more attention because it always seemed some other factions was threatening to win. I decided more open victory conditions could be enjoyable and that also there is some talk about victory conditions influencing AI where if you are France for example and England AI has your defeat as part of its victory conditions its more difficult to maintain peace. However not every faction has mortal enemies and more open conditions might make AI behave a bit more reasonably sometimes especially since so few people pay attention to victory conditions.
